(Minghui.org) I was mistreated and insulted during the first half of my life because my family was of a low class. I also suffered from many illnesses.
My father-in-law, who was the village Party secretary, always looked down on me. He often beat me, swore at me, and even once threw a stool at my head.
At the lowest point in my life, I begged the heavens to let me live until my four kids grew up.
At the time I had a very vivid dream. I went to hell twice. I stood before a judge, but because I had not reached the end of my life, I was sent back to earth. That experience made me realize that a human being has a spirit, and there is a human world, as well as hell.
Experiencing the Power of Dafa: Illiterate, but Can Read Dafa Books
I learned about Falun Dafa in 1997, which changed my fate greatly for the better. My neighbor who practiced asked me if I wanted to give it a try.
Master began taking care of me immediately after I decided to start practicing. I had been having problems with eating any heavy food. But suddenly, I could eat many dumplings during the Chinese New Year. Not long after, I recovered from my other illnesses.
I did not receive any formal education and was illiterate. When I saw other practitioners reading Dafa books, I envied them. I heard about illiterate practitioners being able to read the book Zhuan Falun, but nonetheless, it was not easy for me to learn to read the Fa.
One summer, when I was reading Zhuan Falun in my backyard, a passerby remarked, “Look at how diligent you are at your age. You work harder than students preparing for their university entrance examinations!”
I thought to myself, “Preparing for the university entrance examination... How can that be compared with my studying Dafa? What I am learning is the universal Fa.”
Fellow practitioners and my daughter helped me recognize the Chinese characters. After about a year, I could recognize all the words in Zhuan Falun. It seemed incredible that someone who had not attended school could learn, in her mid-seventies, to read all the Dafa books..
Treating My Father-in-law With Kindness
After I began practicing Falun Dafa, I followed its principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” I get along well with my relatives, friends, and neighbors. In particular, I no longer resent my father-in-law, and treat him very well.
Because he looked down on me, he did not want me to take care of him when he got old. But his other son and wife did not want to care for him, and they mistreated him. I felt sorry for him.
My children asked me why I was treating him so well, despite the fact that he had mistreated me. I shared with them the principles that I learned from Dafa.
“The reason why your grandpa used to treat me like that,” I said, “is probably because of our karmic relationship. I can't really blame him. By treating him nicely, I am paying back what I owe him.”
It could be that my sincerity moved him, or I paid back my debt, because he finally changed his attitude. He felt regret for how he treated me, and this stubborn man felt embarrassed.
Police Officers Quit the CCP
Local practitioners and I talk to people about Dafa, and explain why they should withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its youth organizations.
We were once arrested and taken to the police station, where we were searched, and about a dozen Dafa amulets were found.
“Don't throw them away,” I said, “they are amulets for people. Each one of you can pick one, then pick another one for your parents. We are all seniors and won't lie to you. By holding on to the amulets and reciting 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,' you will ensure your safety in times of trouble.”
We talked to them for more than two hours. In the end, we helped three people quit the CCP. Later, an officer was holding up an amulet and shouted twice, “Falun Dafa is wonderful!” About two-and-a-half hours later, they offered to take us home.
I changed from being a very fragile person to a very fit one, from crying all day long to being in high spirits, and the changes were significant. It is Dafa that has transformed me into someone who is selfless.
