On November 26, 2000, Australia's National TV Channel 9, hosted a special discussion on Falun Gong. It was aired on a popular series called "Sundays". The program introduced Falun Gong in very positive terms. In the meantime, it also exposed Jiang Zemin and his followers' attempt to extend their persecution of Falun Gong from China to Australia. Using witnesses, the program revealed how Jiang Zemin and his government used intimidation to pressure local governments in Australia.
Under a TV reporter's relentless questioning, the Chinese Consulate's speaker almost ran out of words in defending their official position. Falun Gong practitioners also had a chance to tell people the truth, allowing the Australian people to learn what's really going on.
Two local congressmen talked about their own experience of being pressured by the Chinese Consulate. They expressed their outrage regarding Jiang Zeming and his followers' gross violations of Australia's Constitution, and the human rights of its citizens. One congressman said, "If a group of people has registered in this country, no matter who these people are or what they believe in, they are entitled to their freedom under the Federal Constitution. No one should write letter to a local government to suppress these people. If the Chinese Consulate wanted to convey a certain message, they should have communicated with the Prime Minister."
This program has created a lot of interest among its Australian audience. It has helped to widely spread Falun Dafa in Australia.
The program ended with a 60 year-old Australian female practitioner talking about her experience: "For many years I have been searching, I did not know what I was searching for. Now I have found it at last. It's so wonderful and so beautiful." Her voice was filled with compassion and hope, leaving a lasting impression, and giving people much to think about.
