Dear Governor George W. Bush, or Vice President Al Gore,
Greetings during this holiday season! We, the Florida practitioners of Falun Gong, offer you our congratulations on your hard-fought campaign, and wish you success. We admire the efforts you have given to promote freedom, human rights and prosperity in this country and around the world, and we hope you get the opportunity to continue to do so.
Falun Gong is an ancient and powerful cultivation system. Since being introduced to the public in China in 1992, it has spread to more than 40 countries, and has greatly improved the lives of over 100 million people. Falun Gong is based on the universal principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance"; practitioners use these principles to guide them in daily life. It has improved millions of people's health, and, more important, it has been improving the morality of the whole society. In just eight years, it has made a great contribution to the world.
However, as you know, in the past year the Chinese government, following the personal orders of Chairman Jiang Zemin, has brutally suppressed Falun Gong. The most horrific sorts of torture and abuse are being used against peaceful Falun Gong Practitioners, 80 of who have died as a result of this treatment so far. Tens of thousands of others have been imprisoned. Jiang Zemin's actions ignore the Chinese constitution as well as every standard of human rights and decency.
Therefore, in this season of peace and hope, we urge you to speak out strongly against these abuses and in support of Falun Gong and those practitioners who are bearing such great suffering in China. We support whoever supports righteousness, morality and freedom. Upon such things depend the future of this nation, and the future of the world.
