(Minghui.org) It’s been 19 years since Shen Yun Performing Arts started in 2006. Wherever it goes, it’s not only loved by Western audiences but also attracts many Chinese people. After seeing Shen Yun, they understand why the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has spared no effort to attack it. They praise Shen Yun’s high level of musicianship and dance artistry, and many say that the performances are not only beautiful and brilliant, but also revive China’s glorious traditional culture and truly demonstrate its values.
After Ms. Wang and Mr. Wang, Chinese immigrants from Beijing who work as accountants, moved to Toronto from Beijing last year, they were excited to finally fulfill their long-cherished wish they made in 2014 to see Shen Yun in person. Ms. Wang said, “As a Chinese, I am very grateful to Shen Yun for giving the world a new understanding of China.”
She explained, “The Chinese people today are not the people we traditionally imagine. Chinese these days have no respect for Confucianism or their own ancient Chinese culture. I was very touched to see our traditional Chinese culture showcased in Shen Yun. Through the performances, people not only learn about the plight of Falun Gong, but they also show the world what Chinese people should be like, what China was like in the past, what ancient China was like, and what the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture is... We have a 5,000-year-old culture, but now no one is passing it on. We should be very proud of the traditional culture spread by Shen Yun.
“What Shen Yun is doing now is protecting the dignity of Chinese people and saving the spirit of the nation.”
Wuhan Immigrant: Confidence Arises Spontaneously with Shen Yun
On May 9, 2010, Wang Naihe, who immigrated from Wuhan to Toronto five years ago, saw Shen Yun for the fourth time. He said that, whenever there is a Shen Yun performance in Toronto, he will definitely go see it. “This is a real traditional Chinese cultural program. Shen Yun allows us [Chinese] to regain our lost national spirit.”
Wang said that, as a Chinese, true confidence arose naturally with the opening of the Shen Yun performance. He particularly likes Chinese classical literature, so he feels very close to the dances about historical figures such as Wu Song and Han Xin. He said that the values of benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, and trust followed by the ancient Chinese were well presented in the show.
Wang said that it is absolutely impossible to see a show like Shen Yun in China today. Art has become a propaganda tool of the CCP and a false and empty political show. He said, “Even artists with great, creative talents have no space to perform freely. Seeing the development of Shen Yun overseas makes Chinese feel relieved and hopeful from the bottom of their hearts.”
Touched to See Shen Yun Even for the Second Time
“This performance touched my heart and touched something in me. I was very excited and my eyes were filled with tears,” said Mike Li, a Chinese who has lived outside of China for three years and is engaged in overseas trade. “I have been doing business for many years and I’ve been muddle-headed for decades. One day, someone told me that Shen Yun shows traditional Chinese culture, and I felt it was true after I watched it.”
Mike said that his heart was awakened by Shen Yun again: “I can see that Shen Yun is saving people.” Three years ago, Mike saw the Shen Yun performance for the first time when he went abroad, but he was still moved to tears after seeing the Shen Yun New York Art Company at the Boch Wang Theater in Boston.
He said, “I think Shen Yun awakens something in your heart and expresses Chinese tradition. In fact, we talk about tradition, but no one has a complete concept of it. I think Shen Yun runs through it all and tells you most of the essence, and Chinese people can understand it.
“In fact, for thousands of years, Chinese people have worshiped the divine, heaven and earth, and emphasized harmony between people, heaven and earth, earth and people, and the unity of heaven and man. But now this harmony is gone. I hope that Shen Yun can bring this concept to more people, especially Chinese people, one day. It can awaken these ancient things in people’s hearts,” he said.
This year, his Chinese friends came to see Shen Yun after seeing him following it. “After seeing Shen Yun, they were amazed at how good it was and how touching it was!
“I think we should see such performances in China. I hope that one day in the future we can all go back and watch Shen Yun in China.”
Hopes Shen Yun Can Perform in China
Qi Jiazhen, a well-known Chinese author in Australia, saw the sixth performance of the Shen Yun World Art Company at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne with her husband and other family members on February 14, 2019. She expressed her admiration, “Shen Yun is amazing. Only Falun Gong has such a spirit and can have such a great performance. Whether it is music, content, or color, it is rich and colorful, which is amazing. I hope Shen Yun can perform in China. That is the biggest thing.”
Ms. Qi is currently a member of the Independent Chinese PEN Center and a director of the Qi Cultural Foundation. She has published many works, including Tears of the Liberty, Red Dog, and the English autobiography The Black Wall: The True Story of Father and Daughter: Two Generations of Prisoners.
Ms. Qi said that the divine culture displayed by Shen Yun is very good, but it’s a pity that it has been destroyed by the CCP. “The CCP has long been promoting atheism because it wants to deprive people of their freedom of belief. Belief in the CCP is the real cult. It exterminates all religions. I believe that there is divine in this world, and doing good deeds will be rewarded.”
She added, “The most important thing to do now is to oppose the tyranny of the CCP and wait until the CCP is destroyed by the divine, and Shen Yun will perform in China. This is our greatest wish.”
Epilogue
The CCP deceives the Chinese people, claiming that it is China. If Shen Yun could perform in China, people there would find that Shen Yun performances reflect China and their own culture. They would realize that “it turns out that our culture has been destroyed by the CCP!” People would want this genuine Chinese culture, and the legitimacy of the CCP would disintegrate.
