[Newly Translated Older Death Case] 59-Year-Old Inner Mongolia Woman Dies in May 2022

A 59-year-old woman in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, died on May 10, 2022, after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Zhao Fuxia was predeceased by her mother Ms. Zhang Guizhi and older sister Ms. Zhao Guirong, who also lost their lives due to the persecution, Ms. Zhang on February 11, 2015, and Ms. Zhao around 2020.

Ms. Zhao Fuxia’s father Mr. Zhao Yu and her two other sisters and their husbands all practiced Falun Gong. Members of her extended family were repeatedly arrested for their faith after the persecution began in 1999.

The oldest Zhao sister, Ms. Zhao Guirong, was given forced labor and later sentenced to seven years. She died at an unknown time.

Ms. Zhao Fuxia was arrested on June 4, 2002; June 4, 2012; January 11, 2013; and February 10, 2014. She was beaten each time. Her health declined after her mother and older sister died. She herself passed away on May 10, 2022.

The third sister, Ms. Zhao Chunxia, was also repeatedly detained. Her husband, Mr. Jia Bin, was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released on January 21, 2017, only to be arrested with his wife on April 21 of that year and sentenced to prison in late 2017. Mr. Jia was given another five years and his wife three years. The couple’s oldest child, Ms. Jia Xuedong, an elementary school teacher, was arrested on June 8, 2016, for talking to her students about Falun Gong. She was released on bail about a month later.

The youngest sister, Ms. Zhao Chunhua, and her husband Mr. Wu Jinggang were arrested multiple times. Mr. Wu was sentenced to six years following an arrest in 2019.
