(Minghui.org) A woman in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, was admitted to prison on May 23, 2024, to serve one year for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Deng Guojun was arrested on the morning of September 19, 2022 and released on bail that night. She was tried in the Gaoping District Court on January 8, 2024, and was allowed to go home after the hearing. She was deceived into reporting to the police on January 23, 2024, only to be taken back into custody. Her husband, Mr. Chen Daiyou, found out later that day that she had been sentenced to one year (exact date unknown). See the related report for details of her arrest and trial.
Ms. Deng appealed and the Nanchong City Intermediate Court held a hearing on May 13, 2024. The higher court ruled against her, and she was transferred to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison in the Longquanyi District of the capital city of Chengdu ten days later.
When he received the notice that his wife had been admitted to prison, Mr. Chen wired money to her. When he called the prison later to see if the funds had been received, a guard said that they’d have Ms. Deng call him back. Months passed but she never called. Mr. Chen called the prison again and asked to visit his wife in person. He was told that Ms. Deng was a “political prisoner” and not allowed family visits.
Mr. Chen then called the prison administration bureau to file a complaint, and the bureau said he could visit her. It is unclear if that has happened.
