(Minghui.org) Six residents of Chengde City, Hebei Province were recently sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Guifang, 61, was sentenced to four years; Ms. Yu Suhua, 55, was sentenced to three years and seven months; Mr. Liu Jingchun, 66, was sentenced to three years and six months; Ms. Du Fengjuan, 61, and Ms. Zhao Xiaohong, 56, were each given three years and four months; and Ms. Zhao Baoli received a term of three years. Each of the practitioners were also fined 10,000 yuan.
Except for Mr. Liu, the other five practitioners were arrested by officers from the Shuangqiao District Domestic Security Division on July 18, 2023. Their homes were ransacked and their Falun Gong materials were confiscated.
Mr. Liu was arrested a day later by four officers from the Shuangqiao Police Station. The police (only one was in police uniform) raided his place without a search warrant and refused to provide a list of confiscated items as required by law.
The police held the six practitioners at the Chengde City Detention Center. Their arrests were approved by the Chengde City Procuratorate on August 16, 2023. The Shuangqiao District Procuratorate later took over their cases and prosecutor Zhang Hongjian indicted them.
The practitioners appeared at the Shuangqiao District Court on December 25, 2023 and were convicted on March 7, 2024. Presiding judge Fan Xiaojun, judges Deng Lijing and Zhao Zhiguo, judge’s assistant Liu Rongli and clerk Yang Zhuang signed the verdicts.
