(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 20 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 26 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Zhao Li from Longfeng District will be tried for a second time by the Daqing City Intermediate Court at 2 p.m. on March 16, 2023.
Ms. Zhao was arrested and her home was ransacked by officers from the Daqing City Domestic Security Division and the Lindian County Police Department on July 12, 2022. She was taken to the Daqing City No. 1 Detention Center. The Lindian County Police Department turned her case over to High-tech Development Zone Procuratorate, which sent her case to the High-tech Development Zone Court on November 13.
On December 1, 2022, Ms. Zhao was tried in court via video link. Her relatives and friends were not allowed to attend the trial. On December 14, Ms. Zhao was sentenced to eighteen months in prison. On December 30, the court notified Ms. Zhao. She appealed to the Daqing City Intermediate Court on January 6, 2023.
Ms. Liu Mei was arrested by several police officers on the morning of January 28, 2023, for clarifying the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken to the Dalinghe Police Station. The officers confiscated a copy of the recent article by Falun Gong’s founder, “How Humankind Came to Be.” Around 5 p.m. the officers drove Ms. Liu home.
Officers from the Huachang Police Station went to Hu Binglian’s home around 7 p.m. on March 4, 2023. They photographed Hu and collected saliva samples.
Ms. Li Guilan and another practitioner were monitored by the authorities.
Mr. Zhang Quanheng was released before Chinese New Year’s Day on January 22, 2023, from the Jinzhong Men’s Prison. After returning home, he experienced physical discomfort, had pain in his legs, and suffered memory loss. He could not remember things that happened in the past.
Ms. Zhang Fengcai, 74, from the Hebei District, was reported to the police on the morning of March 11, 2023 for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested by officers from the Gulou Police Station in the Nankai District. Five officers ransacked her home.
Ms. Fan Meiling from Ningcheng County was constantly harassed by the local authorities for her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She left home five years ago and became displaced.
On March 2, 2023, Ms. Fan was arrested by police in the Anci District, Langfang City, Hebei Province. Her current situation is unknown. Her case will soon be turned over to the procuratorate.
Ms. Zhang Wei from the Huangdao District was arrested and her home was ransacked by officers from the Yinzhu Police Station on February 16, 2023. She was released on bail on February 24 after failing a medical examination.
Ms. Xiao Guiying’s home in Zhongfang County was ransacked by officers from the Tuanjie Police Station in the Hecheng District on March 6, 2023. The officers confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong and several Falun Gong books. They threatened Ms. Xiao’s son, and told him that he had to stop his mother from running her restaurant and send her to a nursing home. They said that if he and his mother refused to comply, he would be fired from his job.
Ms. Liu Ying was arrested at home and placed in handcuffs by two officers from the Silian Street Police Station on the morning of March 4, 2023. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated two Falun Gong books and five Falun Gong keepsakes.
The officers took Ms. Liu to Wanjia Hospital for a nucleic acid test and forcibly took her fingerprints. The officers then pushed her into a police car and took her to the Changchun City Detention Center, where she was fingerprinted again. The detention center refused to admit her given her physical examination records.
On the way back, Ms. Liu passed out in the police car, and she was taken to Changchun Central Hospital for emergency treatment. After she regained consciousness the officers took her back to the police station. It was already midnight.
Around four or five o’clock in the morning, Ms. Liu passed out again and collapsed to the ground in the police station. She was taken to the No. 4 Hospital of Jilin University for emergency rescue. She was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). She was placed under first-level supervision, was unable to get out of bed, and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
Mr. Gao Guangcheng was reported to the police in 2020 for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. He was sentenced to eighteen months in prison, which was not enforced due to the COVID pandemic.
In 2021, Mr. Gao’s son, Mr. Gao Peng, was arrested for distributing truth-clarification materials.
Mr. Gao hired a lawyer for his son, and went to various organizations to demand that he be released. He was instead arrested by the Changle Police Department on the grounds of enforcing his prison term and was taken to Jinan Province Prison. When he returned home, he lost vision in both his eyes and his blood sugar remained very high as a result of the abuse he received in prison.
Mr. Zhao Bianyang was followed and arrested while telling people about Falun Gong at a farmers market on March 11, 2023. The people who arrested him said that they were from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of Laohekou City.
On March 4, 2023, the police went to Ms. Sun Yanping’s hometown to look for her. That same day, three officers went to Ms. Zhang Yufen’s home to rummage through her rooms. They did not find anything and left. Officers from the Shuiquliu Town Police Station went to harass Ms. Zhang Yuping in Liudao Village. Mr. Wang Yuhu, who lives on Tianhe Street, was arrested.
Around March 7 and 8, 2023, Ms. Niu Yuxia’s home was ransacked. The police took her truth-clarification materials. The police intended to use them as evidence to escalate the persecution. Ms. Niu had symptoms of blood clots and is now on parole for medical treatment. She is in the hospital. Details are yet to be investigated.
On March 4, 2023, Li Yuxin was arrested and detained by officers from the Chengfa Township Police Station.
On March 4, two officers from the police station and village security director Li Songlin broke into Ms. Liu Zhaomei’s home and forcibly collected samples of her saliva. They threatened that if she did not cooperate, they would ransack her house and arrest her. These same people broke into Ms. Li Yufeng’s house to get her saliva samples. She refused to cooperate.
On March 5, officers and Li Songlin photographed Mu Guirong and Guo Yuhua, and took samples of their saliva.
Wang Yuhua, Wang Yuxia, Wang Yarong, Zhao Yulan, and Wang Yuxiang were all photographed and their saliva samples were taken.
Practitioners Jiang and Ms. Li Cuiling were arrested by officers from the Zunyi Road Police Station in the Longtan District. Jiang was released that day. Ms. Li was taken to the Jilin City Detention Center.
On the afternoon of March 6, 2023, near the north entrance of the Old Passenger Station in Yushu City, three plainclothes officers walked up to Mr. Liu Fengbao’s tricycle parked outside the entrance to the Laoqiao Supermarket. Two of them grabbed Mr. Liu’s arms, pushed him into a white car, and then searched his electric tricycle. They drove away. It was not clear where Mr. Liu was taken to.
Three officers from the Xiangyang Police Station and village security director Chang Jingming broke into Ms. Zhao Shuxian’s home on March 9, 2023. They photographed her and collected saliva samples from her.
Ms. Song Shuhua was arrested in June 2021 and sentenced to one year and ten months on February 25, 2022. When her family recently called the Baoding City Detention Center, they were told that she had been transferred to the Shijiazhuang Women’s Prison on January 4, 2023. But her family has not received any notification about her imprisonment.
Ms. Qin Yuzhen, 60, was taken to the training ward of Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on January 17, 2023 to serve a ten-month term. Because she has been suffering from a medical condition while in the detention center, her family is very worried about her situation now, especially since she is in a prison notorious for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
Mr. Liu Changfu, 60, was taken to the Gongzhuling Prison on February 14, 2023 to serve a two-and-a-half-year term. He was arrested on May 13, 2022 and was sentenced by the Jingyu County Court on December 20, 2022.
Prior to his latest sentencing, Mr. Liu was arrested in October 2017 for putting up couplets with information about Falun Gong. The police forcibly collected his fingerprints and saliva sample. He was detained for ten days.
Mr. Liu was arrested again on May 9, 2020 at his home. His Falun Gong books and other items were confiscated. He was held at the police station for half a day.
Mr. Guo Yuanrong, a 59-year-old Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province resident, was sentenced to two years by the Yungang District Court in Datong City, Shanxi Province in late January 2023. His family recently confirmed that he was taken to the Qi County Prison in Datong.
Ms. Qu Guiying, 70, is set to be released on April 2, 2023 from the Jilin Province Women’s Prison. Ms. Qu was arrested on April 3, 2019, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong in neighboring Tonghua City, Jilin Province. The Liuhe County Court secretly sentenced her to four years in December 2019.
Ms. Pan Dongmei, a 43-year-old mother of four, was taken to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison in January 2023 to serve a three-year prison term. She was arrested on June 22, 2021 and convicted by the Maonan District Court on December 28, 2021.
Zhou Danmei, the lawyer that Ms. Pan’s family hired to represent her, not only entered a guilty plea for Ms. Pan against her will, but also tried to deceive her into pleading guilty herself. Zhou also failed to file the appeal for Ms. Pan, even though her family paid her 15,000 yuan in legal fees.
Mr. Xu Yongqing, an electrical engineer, was arrested in October 2021 at the Longquan Train Station, when he was traveling from his hometown in Longquan City, Zhejiang Province back to his residence in Shanghai. He was sentenced to four years and fined 10,000 yuan by the Liandu District Court in Lishui City, which has jurisdiction over Longquan. He was transferred from the Longquan City Detention Center to the Zhejiang Province No. 2 Prison on March 1, 2023.
