(Minghui.org) Henan is one of the provinces in China where the persecution of Falun Gong is most severe. Female practitioners in the province who are sentenced for their faith are usually held in Xinxiang City Women’s Prison. Many have been given sentences from three to ten years for having Falun Gong books or distributing information about Falun Gong.
Even elderly practitioners in their 70s and 80s aren’t spared from torture in this prison. Some have become wheelchair-bound, some suffered injuries to their brains, and some suffered mental breakdowns as a result of intensive torture.
There is an Education Team in Xinxiang City Women’s Prison. Its members are mostly former practitioners (referred to as collaborators below) who submitted to torture, renounced their faith and then assisted the guards in torturing newly admitted or steadfast practitioners in order to earn rewards or reduced sentences.
When a Falun Gong practitioner is admitted to the prison, these collaborators will target her and try to talk her into writing the statements to renounce her faith. Some have tried to convert newly admitted practitioners to another religion.
If a practitioner refuses to write statements renouncing Falun Gong, the collaborators isolate her and prevent her from talking to other inmates. They then take turns watching her around the clock and deprive her of sleep. At first they keep her awake till midnight and wake her up at 4:30 a.m. to write the statements. If she still refuses, they’ll keep postponing her bedtime until 2 a.m. or not allow her to sleep at all, until she becomes physically and mentally exhausted and writes the statements giving up her faith.
After a practitioner is forced into writing the statements, the collaborators continue to monitor her and make sure that she does not change her mind. The collaborators force her to write eight articles slandering Falun Gong.
After that, the practitioner is placed in an “advanced class,” where she is ordered to write another fifteen articles slandering Falun Gong and attend almost eight hours of brainwashing every day from 7:20 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. In the evening, she has to watch the Chinese propaganda news until 9 p.m. When she finishes the “advanced class,” she still needs to write one slandering article per month until she is released from prison.
