(Minghui.org) One day recently, my son was walking around in the living room while I was hand copying the Fa, and I found myself getting annoyed. In response, I raised my hand and was about to tell him to go to another room. Then I realized something was wrong.
I thought, “Why should my son accommodate me? Why couldn’t it be the other way around? Oh, It’s selfishness! I’m being selfish!”
My son is an obedient child, so my wife and I have developed a bad habit. We often tell him to do this or that, and we are very casual about it.
I realized that I’ve been very selfish, and I shouldn’t do whatever I want just because my son is obedient. He seemed happy and at ease walking around the living room, and it would be too selfish if I kicked him out!
So I put my hand down and told myself to stop being selfish. Once I calmed down, his walking around no longer bothered me. When my righteous thoughts emerged, I felt a surge of energy coming from within.
I’ve been feeling discomfort these past few days, as if I had a low-grade fever and was in a daze. When my xinxing improved, my cultivation energy surpassed the fever. I didn’t feel feverish and my mind was clear. It was great!
Although this seemed to be a small issue, and things like this happen almost every day, I realized that each small issue is important and needs to be corrected. Even though I have many attachments left, I often don’t notice them because I’m so used to them that I hardly feel them anymore.
I don’t think this is a trivial matter, because letting go of selfishness is a big deal! It’s the standard of the new universe.
Master said,
“... you should consider others first, so as to attain the righteous Enlightenment of selflessness and altruism.” (“Non-Omission in Buddha-Nature,” Essentials For Further Advancement)
I decided that starting from today, I should rectify things in my life that are incorrect. Once I enlighten to something, I must follow up with action, improve my character, and change myself thoroughly.
