(Minghui.org) When two practitioners in a neighboring county were arrested and the police submitted their case to the procuratorate, several of us practitioners decided to rescue them.
We went to the procuratorate together with family members of the detained practitioners to file a complaint against the head of the Domestic Security Office for arresting the practitioners. It happened that another practitioner’s lawyer was there to review his case document.
The lawyer helped us explain to the public prosecutor that practicing Falun Gong is protected by the law. Unable to refute the lawyer, the public prosecutor, Ying, became upset and reprimanded the lawyer in a loud, threatening voice.
Not wanting the conversation to become more intense, I stepped in and said to Ying with a friendly tone that I had a question for her. To protect myself, I said I was the sister of one of the detained practitioners.
Ying looked at me and her tone eased a little. “Okay, I understand your concern for your family members. As long as I can answer, I will try to make it clear to you,” she replied.
Looking into her eyes, I said sincerely that we found it was wrong to use Article 300 of the Criminal Law to arrest my sister, the detained practitioner. First, Falun Gong is not a cult and it is not on the cult list from the General Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Public Security. Therefore, officials in the justice system cannot simply use an internal notice from the Supreme Court and Supreme Procuratorate to prosecute Falun Gong practitioners.
The lawyer also added a few words from time to time to support me. I explained that my sister is an ordinary citizen and she could not possibly “undermine the implementation of the law” as specified in Article 300 of the Criminal Law.
“Also, there are new initiatives that officials in the justice system will be held accountable for cases they had handled, including those from the past,” I explained. “The day will come sooner or later that the innocence of my sister will be redressed. By rejecting my sister’s case, you are safeguarding the dignity of the law and leaving a clean record for your future.”
Understanding the Truth
As we were talking I stood up and walked over to Ying’s desk without realizing it. Two of the practitioner's children also stood next to me and begged Ying, “Please, let our mother go.”
I also sent forth righteous thoughts for Ying so that she could understand the truth about Falun Gong. Other practitioners were also sending forth righteous thoughts outside the procuratorate. Little by little, I noticed Ying change, from impatience to hesitation to deep thinking. I knew she was moved by my words.
“Look, there is no legal basis to prosecute my sister. The simplest way is to reject her case,” I added.
I then told her this story: Soldiers who went on trial after World War II said they had not done anything wrong by following orders. But the judge said that the soldier could have lifted the gun barrel a little to spare a life. You always have a choice.
“Okay, okay, I get it. You are saying that Falun Gong is not one of the 14 cults and she didn’t violate the implementation of any law,” Ying said. “I don't make the decision, but I’ll pass my recommendation on for you.”
When the court had a hearing later, the public prosecutor was not Ying but someone else. She did enter the courtroom but did not say anything. I guessed that she withdrew from the case, not wanting to prosecute the practitioner against her conscience.
Conversation in Front of a Computer
The next time I met Ying was after another practitioner Mei was arrested. I worked with that same lawyer for the rescue effort. Mei’s husband was timid and daredd not go to the procuratorate. Other practitioners encouraged him to come, but after arriving, he stayed in the car.
We did not know who the prosecutor in charge of Mei’s case was and we didn’t know who to ask either. At the case filing department, we saw Ying. She recognized the lawyer and they started talking. Ying said she had left the public prosecution division. When we asked her about Mei’s case, she said it had not been officially handed over.
“We cannot disclose any information. Moreover, you still need to submit a letter to prove your relationship with the person,” she added.
“Mei is my sister and her husband is right outside. Will his ID work?” I asked. “You know, it is not easy for us to come here.”
“No, an ID card is not enough,” she replied.
At that moment, Ying glanced at me and turned her head away. Then she quickly gave me a serious look. I felt a little uneasy worrying she might have recognized me. Last time I did not wear a mask and talked to her for nearly two hours. This time I wore a mask because of the pandemic, but my eyes could not be covered and my voice was the same. She looked at me for a while, stood up, whispered something to another person, and went out.
I was a little nervous: I followed so many Falun Gong cases, and she might already know that I was not a family member. So she might have gone out to try and get me arrested. Should I leave here to avoid being arrested? But then I thought: what am I afraid of? I came here for a good cause and I just have to be upright. Dafa is being slandered, Master is being wronged, and Dafa disciples are being persecuted. Why can’t I straighten my spine and seek justice?! Thinking of this, I calmed down, called to Master in my heart, and adjusted my posture.
After a while, Ying came back and sat at her desk. She then opened an interface on the computer, looked directly at me with a smile, and said, “I’m sorry, I really can’t tell you. I can’t violate policy here. Look, we do have policies and regulations.” She also turned the computer monitor a little bit sideways. Across the wide table, I saw Mei’s name on the computer screen. I tried to take a closer look but did not know where to look and could not see clearly.
Seeing I looked a little confused, Ying turned the monitor towards me a little more.
“Thank you,” I said to her. I could tell that the look on her face was sincere and I smiled back at her.
“Let’s go,” the lawyer said just at that moment. I asked the lawyer where we were going and he said, “We're going to the prosecutor who is handling the case."
When I asked him how he knew who it was, he said, “It was on the computer screen. I saw the name.”
I was excited and was thankful to Ying for helping us.
A Dream
Rescuing fellow practitioners is also a process of cultivating ourselves. Once after a practitioner was arrested, his family filed a criminal complaint against all officers involved, from the police to the prosecutor. When the court was holding a second hearing, one family member said to the prosecutor, “We have filed a criminal complaint against you. You have to recuse yourself.”
“You sued me? Why?!” The prosecutor asked.
“The crime of bending the law for personal gain,” replied the practitioner. “You can go and read the complaint.”
The prosecutor rested his head on the table, deflated.
This incident shocked the procuratorate. The local police wanted to retaliate against the family. They also harassed some local practitioners. Some practitioners asked me to keep a low profile. I knew it was wrong to stop rescuing detained practitioners, but I was afraid as well. Then one day I had a dream.
In the dream, I saw police in a car coming to arrest me. I ran out the back door. Just as the police car was about to catch up, a large, pure white eagle grabbed me under my arms and flew me straight up into the sky. Looking down on the ground, the police car was like a matchbox. The police could not find me. The eagle put me down, I was safe.
When waking up from the dream, I still had that light and wonderful feeling as if flying with the eagle. I teared up, since I knew it was Master who encouraged me and told me not to be afraid. The vicious people are nothing--they are too low to reach us.
I know that we need to help Master to save people, including officials in the justice system. They are in danger since they have persecuted innocent Falun Gong practitioners for following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. We are doing all this not just to stop the persecution, but also help these people have a good future.
