(Minghui.org) It was recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a tailor in Yangquan City, Shanxi Province, had been taken to the Shanxi Province Women’s Prison to serve a three-year sentence for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Cheng Guifang, around 57, was arrested by officers of Majiaping Police Station and Dongshan Community on June 29, 2022. She was taken to a brainwashing center located in a hotel. According to an insider, her arrest was ordered by the Political and Legal Affairs Committees (PLAC) in Yangquan City and its subordinate Kuang District. Her brainwashing committee consisted of Wang Ming, of the Kuang District PLAC, Li of the Yangquan City PLAC, two officers of Majiaping Police Station, former practitioner Qiao Jinhua, a person named Ma Xiaodui and a person whose name wasn’t known.
Although Ms. Cheng managed to escape from the brainwashing center on July 6, 2022, she was arrested again a few days later and taken to the Yangquan City Detention Center. Her family was kept in the dark of her situation for over a year, before they learned about her sentencing recently.
Past Persecution: Frequent Harassment, One Labor Camp Term and One Prison Term
Ms. Cheng took up Falun Gong in September 1997 and soon recovered from complications from childbirth. She was able to enjoy good sleep and full of energy again. Prior to her latest prison sentence, she has been repeatedly arrested for upholding her faith. She also served a one-year labor camp term and a four-year prison.
Ms. Cheng was deceived by police officer Zhang Baomin into going to the Majiaping Police Station on November 18, 2005 and arrested upon arrival. She was later given one year at the Xindian Women’s Forced Labor Camp in Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi.
When she was sending her daughter to college, Ms. Cheng was body-searched at the Taiyuan City Airport on October 5, 2009, for having Falun Gong materials with her. She was later sentenced to four years by the Kuang District Court and admitted to the Shanxi Province Women’s Prison on March 15, 2010.
Ms. Cheng opened a tailor’s shop in late 2016. Her exquisite skills and friendly service soon earned her very good business. Yet because of her practicing Falun Gong, the police often came to harass her.
A plainclothes officer from the Majiaping Police Station showed up at Ms. Cheng’s shop on September 21, 2019 and ordered her to log in to a police website. When she refused to comply, the officer threatened her several times to close her store.
Three police officers and a community worker harassed Ms. Cheng at her shop again on the morning of September 28, 2019. They took her photos and asked for her cellphone number. She didn’t tell them.
Two workers from the Dongshan Community, surnamed Gao and Chen, came to Ms. Cheng’s shop on November 17, 2020. They attempted to take photos of her shop, but were stopped by her.
Zhang Baomin and two others officers from the Majiaping Police Station came again on April 28, 2021. Zhang asked Ms. Cheng whether she remembered him. She said he was the one who deceived her in 2005 that resulted in her being taken to the labor camp. Zhang said to her, “Let me tell you, as long as you still practice Falun Gong, I could arrest you at any time.” He and the other two officers then left.
