(Minghui.org) When I noticed other practitioners clarify the truth to people well, I felt ashamed and anxious. I was ashamed because I knew my attachment to fear was stopping me. I felt anxious because I was afraid I would not be able to catch up with the progress of Fa-rectification because I slacked off. After I focused on reading the Fa, I began to participate in more truth-clarification activities.
At first, I talked to my colleagues and friends, but I had some strong notions: I classified them into groups—those I thought would be easier to save and those I thought would not accept the truth.
Just like a teacher preparing a lesson for their students, I elaborately prepared what I was going to talk about. The first person I talked to was my colleague Mei. I thought she would easily understand and agree to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its youth organizations, because we were close. However, when I talked to her, what I said sounded very feeble. When I encouraged her to quit, she just smiled and said nothing. Although she finally agreed to quit, I could feel she just did it to not hurt my feelings. I felt frustrated.
Next, I invited my good friend Bing to my home and cooked her a nice meal. While we chatted, I began talking about the CCP’s corruption. Unexpectedly, she agreed and kept saying, “Oh, I know!” Her reaction kindled my attachment of zealotry. However, when I asked if she wanted to quit the CCP organizations, her reaction was the same as Mei’s: She reluctantly quit, but with big concerns about her safety even though she used a pseudonym.
Even though they agreed to quit, I felt frustrated. But this also caused me to look within: I realized that I wouldn’t be able to clarify the truth effectively if I held onto my notions and attachments. Only when I rectify myself can I save more people. I continued to look inward and I studied the Fa more.
My child was taking voice lessons with my former colleague Cai and I went to her home to pick her up. Cai is aggressive at work, and she is also a member of the CCP. I didn’t plan to clarify the truth to her, thinking that she might be too resistant.
While we chatted, since her health was not so good, she talked about what she was doing to keep fit. I gradually brought the subject around to belief and cultivation. I explained how Falun Dafa was being persecuted, the true nature of the Party, and how by withdrawing from the CCP we could avoid being implicated for its crimes. I knew Master was inspiring me—I was eloquent and very logical. To my surprise, Cai immediately agreed to quit the Party. This shows that only when we have no preconceived notions can we do a good job of saving people.
My colleague Ding was always interested in spirituality. I noticed that she had many books like the Bible and Zen Buddhism on her desk, along with quotes by different spiritual leaders. I thought she had too many notions and always tended to argue. One day I asked her, “Why not read the book Zhuan Falun since you are interested in spirituality? Maybe this book can answer all your questions.” She immediately agreed. The next day I gave her Zhuan Falun, Zhuan Falun Volume II, and Hong Yin. I told her she had to read the books from beginning to end, at least once. A few weeks later, she quietly told me, “I read all the books twice. They are so good! Now I understand many principles.”
As I was clarifying the truth to her more deeply, before I could finish, she said, “Please help me quit the CCP and its affiliates!” A few days later, she told me that she'd read Zhuan Falun three times. When I asked her if she wanted to learn the exercises, she agreed.
From clarifying the truth to Cai and Ding, I understood that one’s cultivation state affects whether we can save people. Only when we are free of attachments and notions will people listen to us. Saving people is also a process for us to look inward and find our attachments, such as the attachments to anxiety, zealotry, frustration, and so on.
