(Minghui.org) My younger sister Jane called me from Hong Kong in March this year. She had a hoarse voice and kept coughing. She said she had fever, sore throat, and pain all over. In fact, she and her husband were sitting in the hospital at that minute waiting to see a doctor.
Several days before, she and her husband, as well as two other couples, had gathered at a hot pot restaurant. One of the friends called later saying that he had been infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. He asked my sister and brother-in-law that they might have it too. Not long after, Jane started showing symptoms and her husband immediately took her to the hospital.
Jane said many families in her neighborhood had already been infected and she saw body bags in the hospital. She was terrified.
Jane, 41, is not my biological sister. Her mother gave birth to her without government approval (due to China’s one-child policy). In order to avoid paying fines for having a second child, her birth-mother sent her to live with my family when she was 17 days old. My parents brought her up and she considers us her real family.
Over 10 years ago, Jane got married and settled in Hong Kong with her husband. After having a baby boy, she came to visit us every year. Her son was cute and smart. We taught him to recite “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” He did very well in school.
Four years ago, Jane had a second baby boy. Jane brought her two boys to visit us last in 2019. We haven’t seen them since the pandemic broke out in 2020. She calls my mother often and talk about everything.
Both my parents are Falun Dafa practitioners. Through the practice, my father recovered from stomach cancer and my mother recovered from high blood pressure and liver disease. Jane knew all this and quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) after the regime began to suppress Falun Dafa in 1999. She said, “People in Hong Kong can practice Falun Dafa freely, but you guys need to be careful in China.”
Whenever Jane or someone in her family was sick, my mother always reminded her to recite the phrases “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good”. Especially after the pandemic started, my mother repeatedly said to her that the most important thing is safety and health. Jane also told her husband and two children about Falun Dafa and asked them to keep the nine magic words in mind.
Jane is a stay-at-home mom while her husband works to support the family. Jane understood it was not easy to earn money, so she was always frugal. Nonetheless, the couple still had arguments from time to time. When that happened, Jane would call my mother to complain. My mother and I would share insights we had gained from Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. “If everyone could behave like you practitioners, then families wouldn't fight anymore,” Jane happily remarked.
Hearing that she had Covid, we reminded her to recite the phrases. We also told her stories of people being blessed by reciting the phrases. Jane said she and her family members were all reciting the magic words.
Since the hospital was packed with Covid patients, Jane ended up quarantined in at home. She got better in two days, but her younger son started showing symptoms and tested positive. Her older son and husband followed and became feverish. They simply stayed home (because of the packed hospitals) and kept reciting the auspicious Dafa phrases. They all recovered in less than two weeks.
After that, her parents-in-law and their older son’s family were also infected. Jane prepared some soup for them. Her mother-in-law was deeply moved, “Many people are afraid of visiting us now except you.” Jane replied, “We are one family and ought to support each other.”
My mother asked Jane if she told her parents-in-law and brother-in-law about the Dafa phrases. She said, “Of course.”
Jane also told us that her family of four was enjoying life now that they’ve all recovered, “My family went to the beach the other day. The kids were swimming, picking up shells, and playing around, so much fun...”
