(Minghui.org) Mr. Yin Xiangyang in Longkou City, Shandong Province, struggled with poor health from the time he was a child. He was especially tormented by stomachaches. As he grew older, he began to develop insomnia, enteritis, and bronchitis. His wife, Ms. Wu Manping, had problems with her kidneys, liver, and lungs.
In early 1999, the couple were drawn to Falun Gong after hearing about its tremendous health benefits. In no time, both of them noticed their health had improved. Living by Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, they changed their unhealthy lifestyle and other bad habits. Many of their relatives were amazed by how they changed.
Only a few months later, in July 1999, the Chinese communist regime ordered a nationwide persecution of this ancient spiritual discipline.
Since then, the couple have had their home ransacked and been detained numerous times. Both of them were tortured in custody for refusing to give up their faith. Unable to bear the intense pressure of the persecution, their son, Mr. Yin Shanbo, tried to commit suicide but was saved in time.
The following are some key points in the persecution of Mr. Yin and Ms. Wu.
Interrogations and Methods of Torture
Mr. Yin was beaten by Song Anyuan, secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), and deputy township head Cui from the Xinjia Township office in Longkou City on August 31, 1999.
On February 2, 2000 (three days before the Chinese New Year), Mr. Yin and Ms. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. They were arrested and tied to a chair for two days by Ma Yanhui in Longkou City’s liaison office in Beijing.
Mr. Yin was beaten by Yang Jianlong, head of the local police substation, in October 2000. Mr. Yin lost his front teeth.
Mr. Yin’s front teeth were knocked out by Yang Jianlong.
Physical Torture
Shocked with Electric Batons
When Mr. Yin and Ms. Wu went to Beijing on October 6, 1999, to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, they went to the Supreme People’s Court. They wanted to explain that the persecution was wrong. They were arrested, taken to a police station in Beijing, and then transferred to Longkou City’s liaison office in Beijing.
The next day, they were handcuffed and taken back to Longkou. The police held them in a detention center. Xing, the deputy head of the detention center, instigated a few inmates to beat Mr. Yin, slap his face, and shock him with electric batons.
Savage Beating
On February 5, 2000 (Chinese New Year’s Day), Mr. Yin was taken to the Xinjia Street Residential Committee. Xie Ruzhi, the deputy secretary of the residential committee PLAC, tried to force Mr. Yin to eat a piece of meat. He stuffed the meat into Mr. Yin’s mouth and pushed it with chopsticks. He pushed so hard, one of Mr. Yin’s teeth loosened and fell out. Xie then ordered him to swallow the tooth.
Sun Ruiting, the secretary of the street committee PLAC, held Mr. Yin by his hair and banged his head against the wall and the ground.
When Xie placed hot fireplace tongs on Mr. Yin’s legs, Mr. Yin pushed them away. Sun pushed Mr. Yin onto the floor, with one foot on Mr. Yin’s face and the other on his stomach. With others holding Mr. Yin’s arms and legs, Xie kicked Mr. Yin’s head, face, eyes, and hips. After Mr. Yin passed out, the officers poured cold water on him to wake him up.
Sun often slapped Mr. Yin in the face during his detention. Sun’s hands once became swollen from beating Mr. Yin and he couldn’t go to work for a few days.
In the township office, Chi Bentao, also a deputy secretary of the street committee PLAC, once ordered Mr. Yin to beat other Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Yin refused to do it. Chi then told Xie to take off Mr. Yin’s pants and beat him with a leather belt.
One afternoon, Yuan Youlin of the residential committee, kicked Mr. Yin in the mouth, hips, and stomach. Zhao Qiang, secretary of the local Youth League, punched Mr. Yin in the face, chest, and stomach. Mr. Yin said he can’t remember how many times Yuan kicked him. The tortured lasted all afternoon. When the officers got tired, they forced Mr. Yin to run laps or stand in a half-squat.
Wang Xianwen, a military director, struck Mr. Yin with a bench and chair. Another officer named Dou Shijie slapped Mr. Yin and once handcuffed him to the fence in the yard so that he would freeze.
More than once the officers pushed Mr. Yin onto the fireplace and claimed he intended to self-immolate.
Sun arrested Mr. Yin again on January 18, 2001. Officer Zheng Fusheng dragged Mr. Yin to the police car. Sun and Song of the PLAC beat Mr. Yin in the Xinjia Street Committee Office.
That same night, seven to eight people beat him until dawn. The officers took off Mr. Yin’s pants. Xie hit him so hard with a leather belt that it broke. Then Xie and Dou Shijie continued to whip Mr. Yin with the broken belt, especially on his face. After the beating, they poured cold water over his head. Mr. Yin suffered a broken right rib, and he had tremendous difficulty breathing.

Xie of the street committee PLAC used a screw to poke Mr. Yin in the eye on September 9, 2002, and it swelled up. Mr. Yin was taken to a brainwashing session hosted by the 610 Office. Wang Ji’an and the driver (also surnamed Xie) of the 610 Office took turns beating and cursing Mr. Yin. Mr. Yin’s sternum was cracked and he had a hard time breathing and almost passed out. They then handcuffed him to the sidebar of a bed for the entire night.
Mr. Yin was sentenced to five years in Shandong Province Prison in January 2005. The guards deprived him of sleep, denied him use of the restroom, force-fed him spicy water, and twisted a toothbrush between his fingers.

In January 2006, the guards forced Mr. Yin to squat down for 19 hours every day for more than three weeks.
Again in October 2006, prison director Li Wei ordered prisoners to force Mr. Yin to squat down around the clock. The prisoners cursed him and jabbed his entire body with needles. After about 100 hours of nonstop torture, Mr. Yin’s entire body, except for his face and hands, was severely bruised. His left arm and femur were broken, and he couldn’t get up by himself. He needed help to use the toilet.
Arrests, Detention, and Extortion
Mr. Yin has been arrested 17 to 18 times, detained four times for a total of 58 days, held in brainwashing sessions twice for half a year, taken to a forced labor camp for ten days, and detained by the local township and street committee for over half a year. He was also given a five-year prison term in 2005 and again in 2015.
