Jiangxi Woman Escapes from Custody, Police Harass Siblings

(Minghui.org) After Ms. Tian Haiying escaped from police custody, the police harassed her brother and sister in an attempt to locate her.

Ms. Tian, of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, was targeted for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. She was arrested on the morning of July 29 by officers from the Jiulong Police Station.

Ms. Tian never returned home that night, but three police officers descended upon her younger brother’s home at 8 a.m. the next morning to look for her (as she had been staying with her brother). The officers did not show their police IDs or an arrest warrant. 

When Ms. Tian’s brother asked the leading officer his name, he refused to answer and only said that he was the chief of the Jiulong Police Station and his police ID is 020358. Ms. Tian’s brother later learned that his name is Nie Min. 

Without a search warrant, Nie asked to “look around” Ms. Tian’s brother’s home. He threatened that if Ms. Tian’s brother refused to cooperate, he would order his subordinates to fill out a search warrant immediately and raid the house. 

Pressured by the police, Ms. Tian’s brother complied with the demand. The police searched every room and ransacked Ms. Tian’s room. Her keys, wallet, cellphone and Falun Gong books were confiscated. The police refused to provide a list of confiscated items to her brother. They also refused to provide further information about her case or the name of the officer in charge of her case, but only ordered her brother to wait for further notice.

The police also arranged several plainclothes officers to stay outside Ms. Tian’s brother’s home for the rest of the day to monitor whether Ms. Tian came back. 

Her brother suspects that she must have escaped from the police station after her arrest. 

On the morning of August 2, 2021, an officer from the Jiulong Police Station called Ms. Tian’s younger sister to look for her. Her sister, who has been struggling with poor health and epilepsy, was terrified.

The officer initially refused to reveal his name, but later said his last name is Li and his phone number is 13907923888. 

Officer Li later called Ms. Tian’s brother and asked him whether he knew another local Falun Gong practitioner. Ms. Tian’s brother suspects that the police managed to get her telephone book and are now collecting information about Falun Gong practitioners in her phone book.
