(Minghui.org) Once upon a time, a man wanted to build a house and he asked a feng shui specialist for advice.
As the two of them walked to the land the man had selected, from afar they saw birds flying around in that location as if they had been disturbed.
“I think we’d better check this out on a different day,” the man said, “There is a peach tree and I believe some kids are climbing up to pick peaches. If we get too close, they may be scared and fall off the tree getting injured.”
“Actually we do not need to come back,” the feng shui specialist replied with a smile, “Your kindness is the best feng shui. It doesn’t matter where you build your house. You and your family will be blessed anyway.”
This story says a lot. Many people are thinking of ways to pursue good luck or feng shui. In fact, the biggest factor for blessing may reside in ourselves – when we always do our best to be a good person, the divine will see it and make the best arrangement for us.
Giving Land for School
Fan Zhongyan, a politician and scholar from the Song Dynasty, has left famous phrases in his writing of The Yueyang Tower such as:
“Not pleased by material gain, and not saddened by personal loss,” “Always thinking about others before oneself, and not ceasing the efforts until others are all happy with what they have.”
These thoughts came from his deep belief in Buddhism. As a result, he became an upright government official who cared about people and paid attention to education.
One time Fan bought a house. A feng shui specialist praised it, saying that people who resided in the house and their offspring would be enjoy wealth and prosperity.
After hearing these words, Fan donated the house as a school for children from the area to study. “Wouldn’t it be a good thing if more people could enjoy wealth and prosperity than just my family?” he explained.
Fan’s good deeds also brought blessings to his own family. All four sons of his were talented and became high-ranking officials. His family was said to have prospered for 800 years.
Returning Valuables and Fate Changed
What Fan did was not unusual at the time. People in the ancient times tended to focus on improving personal character and acting nobly. They treated others with kindness and helped those in need. This would lead to accumulation of virtue and elimination of bad omen.
Taiping Guangji (Extensive Records of the Taiping Era) documented a story of Pei Du, a high-ranking official in the Tang Dynasty. When Pei was young, a fortuneteller examined him and said he would die of hunger as a beggar.
One day when visiting a temple, Pei saw a woman coming with a bag, praying for a while and leaving without the bag. Knowing the woman had forgotten the bag, Pei waited for her to come back. She didn't return so Pei went back to his hotel. He went to the temple early next morning and soon saw that woman coming. She looked very worried. Pei asked what had happened. She said she lost her bag which contained two belts, one of them decorated with jade and worth a lot of money.
Upon confirming the color and other features of the belts, Pei returned the bag to the woman, who thanked him and offered to let him keep one of the belts. Pei said no and left.
When meeting the fortuneteller later, Pei was told that his fate had changed to a promising future. He later became a chancellor and served four emperors.
Flood Has Eyes
In modern China where morality has been rapidly declining, Falun Gong practitioners have been following the tradition of valuing virtue and being a good person. Also known as Falun Dafa, Falun Gong is a meditation system based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to suppress Falun Gong in 1999, but practitioners have never wavered in their faith in being good. They have in turn received blessings for their uprightness and integrity.
In August 2020, a big flood hit Sichuan Province, forcing many people to evacuate. Min River, Dadu River, and Qingyi River, three branches of Yangtze River, all had rapid increase of water level. Leshan Giant Buddha, a 71-meter-tall statue, also had a rising water level that soaked its toes – an incident that had almost never happened before.
At 5 a.m. on August 18, 2020, villagers living by Qingyi River were told to evacuate immediately since the flood peak would arrive at 8 a.m. While most residents began to leave, a Falun Gong practitioner’s family stayed for a while helping others. The water level kept increasing and by 9 a.m., it had immersed land, the foundations of some houses, and fish ponds. When water approached their house, the practitioner’s family also moved safely.
When water receded by 4 p.m., every family returned to survey the damage. Surprisingly, no water crossed dams that surrounded the practitioner’s land, nor was there any water in his house. In the meantime, some lands and houses with a higher elevation were flooded, and some walls were also ruined.
Although the flood immersed his fish fond, not one fish was lost and all of them were still swimming there as if nothing had happened. “This is a true miracle!” called out the practitioner’s brother in excitement.
Similar to this example, there are many stories reported on Minghui about people who received blessings for supporting Falun Gong practitioners. By keeping in mind “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” many people have seen their fate turned around.
Just like the feng shui specialist said in the beginning of this article, when we truly cherish virtue and live by our conscience, we will be looked after.
