(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 24 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Luo Ji, 73, was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan on February 5, 2021. She said in court that she would appeal the verdict. After the sentence was announced, she was immediately taken to the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center and has been held there since.
The human rights lawyer hired by her family met with her at the detention center on the afternoon of March 2. She was in good spirits, even though her blood pressure was high.
Ms. Luo was previously arrested twice in mid-June 2020 and on August 10, 2020, for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was put under residential surveillance by the Maonan District Police Department.
The Maonan District Procuratorate brought the case against her in the Maonan District Court on November 18, 2020. The trial was held on January 8, 2021.
Ms. Lou Qinnan was reported to the police and arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong in February 2020. She was released on bail. In September, she hired a lawyer who pleaded not guilty on her behalf. The court did not pronounce a verdict at the time.
On February 19, 2021, she was taken to the court. The judge told her to say what was on her mind. She made the statement, “Falun Dafa is righteous. There is nothing wrong with Falun Dafa. I am not doing anything wrong by practicing Falun Dafa!” The judge immediately sentenced her to two years in prison and fined her 20,000 yuan.
Ms. Li Huiying, 86, and her husband Mr. Zhou Gong were harassed at home on Jinpan Road by Wei Qiuhong, a residential officer from the Dinggong Road Police Station, and other people on February 24, 2021.
As soon as these people entered the room, an officer started videotaping. Wei asked Ms. Li, “Did you go to Bayi Square on Chinese New Year’s Day (February 12)? We have you on videotape, and you were recorded distributing Falun Gong materials.” Wei also asked if she still practiced Falun Gong. Wei took notes during the whole process and told Ms. Li to press her fingerprints on the notes before they left.
Ms. Liu Weijing from Tongjiangkou Township was arrested while talking to people about Falun Gong in Shenyang City on March 1, 2021. She is being held in the Zaohua No. 1 Detention Center. Her family went to the detention center to visit her on March 3, but detention center officials did not allow them to see her. They said that her case was turned over to the procuratorate.
Ms. Chen Dechun was scheduled to be tried by the Pengzhou City Court on March 9, 2021.
On February 24, 2021, Qingshan District officials harassed practitioners in their jurisdiction on a large scale, forcing them to sign guarantee statements renouncing Falun Gong and threatening their families that they would lose their jobs or have their salaries reduced.
Ms. Shao Sanhua’s daughter was afraid to lose her job, so she wrote a suicide note and told her mother to sign the statements or she would kill herself. Ms. Shao’s husband threatened her with divorce. Ms. Shao left home and became displaced.
Ms. Li Yuzhen refused to sign the statements, and the authorities was required to attend brainwashing sessions and had 30,000 yuan deducted.
Ms. Guo Ping has been ordered to stay at home since February 24. People have been staked out near her home to enforce the restraint.
After Ms. Zhang Yuehong returned from a detention center in February 2020, two officers, Wang and Liu, from the Sucao Police Station, kept pressuring her to go to the police station to sign paperwork. In the past few days in early March 2021, they asked her for photos of her taken at her home.
It was reported that the Shuncheng District Court had issued a notice that Mr. Xu Dewu would be tried in the Xinbin County Detention Center on March 9, 2021.
Ms. Xu Jiang’e was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong and arrested by officers from the Chengnan Police Station around 9 a.m. on March 4, 2021.
When her family went to the police station to request her release, the police refused and threatened her family instead.
That night, Ms. Xu was transferred to the Yingcheng Detention Center, where she has since been held.
Since November 2020, Tao Hua (gender unknown) from Hongtai Township has been repeatedly harassed and threatened by Hongtai Township Police Station officers, Hongtai Township government officials and village committee personnel under orders from the Linxia County Police Department and the Domestic Security Division.
Mr. Liu Wei and his wife Ms. Ai Chaoyu from Chenghua District was scheduled to be tried on the first floor of the Chenghua District Court at 9:30 a.m. on March 9, 2021. The couple have been held in the Chengdu Detention Center for one year and eight months.
Mr. Yang Jianjun, an employee of the Shengli Oilfield Computer Center, took a bus from Dongying City back to his hometown in Yuncheng County on the morning of March 4, 2021, to visit his elderly mother, who was seriously ill.
When the bus arrived in Guangrao County, Mr. Yang was arrested and taken off the bus. He is currently being held in an office building in Dongying District and watched by two people from his work unit. Family visits are not allowed.
Mr. Kan Zhaohua and Gu Hua (gender unknown) from the Pudong New Area were followed 24 hours a day since March 1, 2021, by people sent by the Puxing Road Police Station. It was reported that they would remain under surveillance during the Two Sessions (annual meeting of the People’s National Congress and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference), which will last 15 days.
Starting from March 1, Mr. Liu Shunming from Maqiao Town, Minhang District, was followed by people sent by the Maqiao Police Station and the Comprehensive Management Office of the Maqiao Judicial Agency.
Ms. Chen Ping from Binjiang Residential Community in Xuhui District was monitored 24 hours a day by two people sent by the Longhua Police Station during the Two Sessions. Her personal freedom was restricted.
Elderly Ms. Cong Peixi from Yangpu District was monitored 24 hours a day during the Two Sessions.
Mr. Wang Tianliang from Pantun Village, Chengguan Town, Yanshi City, was arrested by Chang Hongbin and others from the Yanshi City Domestic Security Division on the afternoon of March 4, 2021. The officers ransacked his home and confiscated a computer, two printers, and 700 yuan in cash.
Lin Chengwei, who was promoted in the second half of 2020 to be in charge of the Domestic Security Division from the Changchun Road Police Station, along with residential officer Wang Hui from the Tanggong East Road Community, and others broke into the home of Ms. Han Qingxia’s sister on February 10, 2021—just two days before Chinese New Year.
They showed a detention warrant and asked where Ms. Han was. They pressured her mother to write three statements renouncing Falun Gong, in the absence of Ms. Han. Ms. Han’s mother, also a practitioner, became mentally impaired as a result of Lin Chengwei’s intimidation in February 2019.
Ms. Han’s sister and family have been repeatedly harassed by Lin and others. The police ordered them to open the door of Ms. Han’s home. They confiscated Ms. Han’s personal belongings.
The head of the Tangchang Town 610 Office went to the vegetable market to look for Ms. Zhang Yuru in December 2020. They asked her if she still practiced Falun Gong. When she said yes, they threatened to send her to a brainwashing center or sentence her to prison if she continued to practice.
On the afternoon of February 2, 2021, Ms. Zhang was planting vegetables in the field. Deputy Party secretary Xu Yao, of the No. 11 Brigade of Tang Yuan, demanded she sign the three statements to renounce her faith, but she refused. Xu then made some slanderous remarks.
The village head called Ms. Zhang on the afternoon of February 5 and pressured her to sign paperwork, which she also refused.
