(Minghui.org) A Wuhan City, Hubei Province resident was sentenced to a one-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Wang Xianqiu, a 49-year-old plumber, was arrested on January 30, 2021 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was first given 15 days of administrative detention by the Longquan Police Station, and then taken to the Wuhan City No. 4 Detention Center on February 14, 2021 for criminal detention.
The Donghu New Technology Development Zone Procuratorate transferred his case to the Hongshan District Procuratorate on May 9, 2021. He was indicted on June 8, 2021.
The Hongshan District Court held a hearing of his case on November 26, 2021. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea for him. He also testified in his own defense.
Mr. Wang’s lawyer informed his family on December 6, 2021 that he had been sentenced to one year with a 2,000 yuan fine. He was still being held at the detention center at the time of this writing and was scheduled to be released on January 27, 2022.
