(Minghui.org) A woman in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, was recently sentenced to 3.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Fu Yanying was arrested on January 27, 2021, for talking to people about the Chinese communist regime’s cover-up of the pandemic as well as Falun Gong’s health benefits to protect people from the coronavirus. Another practitioner surnamed Wang was arrested with her.
When both Ms. Fu and Ms. Wang were taken to the hospital for a physical, Ms. Wang’s daughter went there to seek her release. The police knocked the young woman down and detained her for ten days. Ms. Wang was given 15 days of detention and later released.
Ms. Fu was transferred from the lockup to the local detention center on February 1 and her arrest was approved. In April 2021, the police submitted her case to the Changli County Procuratorate, which returned the case citing insufficient evidence.
Liu Zhiping, the deputy chief of Hongqilu Police Station, and officer Li Jianping interrogated Ms. Fu in the detention center on June 26. They submitted her case again on July 15.
Ms. Fu appeared in the Changli County Court on August 3 and was sentenced to 3.5 years. She has appealed the verdict to the higher court.
