(Minghui.org) A woman in Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region was sentenced for her faith in Falun Gong and her family has filed a lawsuit against the judges and prosecutors who handled her case.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Luo Xinping, 66, was arrested on August 18, 2020, after she was reported for talking to someone about Falun Gong. The Xixia District Procuratorate approved her arrest on September 24 and indicted her around December 23 before moving her case to the Xixia District Court.
Ms. Luo stood trial on January 12, 2021. Her lawyer and family were informed on March 30 that she was sentenced to four years with a 20,000-yuan fine by judges Zheng Dingli and Wang Xiaojia.
Ms. Luo appealed with the Yinchuan City Intermediate Court. The judges He Wenbo, Zeng Linqiao and Meng Jiapeng ruled to uphold her sentence on May 20, 2021. A month later, on June 22, 2021, she was taken to Ningxia Women’s Prison.
Ms. Luo’s family is suing the two trial court judges, as well as prosecutors Wang Jing and Chen Shanshan, for wrongfully convicting their loved one. They argued that no law criminalizes Falun Gong in China and that there is no legal basis for her prosecution. They demanded that the intermediate court reconsider the case and acquit Ms. Luo.
