(Minghui.org) A Jieyang City, Guangdong Province resident was recently sentenced to nine years in prison, following his arrest at a private residence while reading Falun Gong books with others.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Chen Hongyuan was arrested at Ms. Pei Zhen’s home on June 14, 2020. Six other local practitioners, most of whom were in their 70s or 80s, were also arrested.
Officers of the Rongcheng District Domestic Security Office demanded to search Mr. Chen’s home. As he refused to comply, the police carried him into the police car and went to his home. A dozen officers, joined by those from the Dongxing Police Station, searched his home from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The directors from Rongcheng District Police Department and Jieyang City Police Department were also present. During dinner time, the police ordered takeout and ate their meals at Mr. Chen’s home.
As the police found many used printers at Mr. Chen’s home and Falun Gong related materials in his computer, they escalated the charges against him.
Mr. Chen was beaten while being held at the Jieyang City Detention Center. He held a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was taken to the hospital for treatment in September 2020 after he became very weak.
He was sentenced to nine years and has been taken to the Sihui Prison on September 11, 2021.
