Below are details of their cases.
Mr. Fang Weixiong, 55, was arrested on September 12, 2019, after the police suspected him of distributing Falun Gong materials. Because of sending a text message to alert Mr. Fang of the possible arrest, Mr. Weng Qingzhong, 57, was also arrested on the next day.
Both practitioners have been held at the Tianhe District Detention Center since. Their arrests were approved by the Tianhe District Procuratorate on October 17, 2019. The prosecutor transferred their cases to the Haizhu District Procuratorate on December 16, and they were indicted in late January 2020.
The two practitioners were scheduled to be tried by the Haizhu District Court on October 29, 2020. More details of their hearing are being investigated.
Mr. Li Yuandong, 52, was arrested on July 9, 2019, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The Haizhu District Procuratorate approved his arrest on August 16, 2019, and indicted him on November 21. He is now detained at the Haizhu District Detention Center and was scheduled to be tried by the Haizhu District Court on November 4, 2020. The details of his trial remain to be investigated.
Mr. Li used to work at the Maritime Safety Administration. He took up Falun Gong in May 1999, only two months before the communist regime ordered the persecution that has continued to this day.
Because of Mr. Li’s going to Beijing to appeal for the rights to practice Falun Gong three times in 2000, he was arrested and given one year at the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in the same year. He was arrested again in 2002 and given another year at the same labor camp.
In order to force him to give up Falun Gong, the guards once deprived him of sleep for over 20 days. When he collapsed on the ground due to fatigue, the guards woke him up, beat him, shocked him with electric batons, and inserted teeth picks into his nails. He was on the verge of death several times.
In addition to the incarceration, his workplace forced him to resign from his job and his wife also divorced him.
Ms. Zheng Yingying, a 68-year-old retired beer company employee, was arrested on March 31, 2020, at a bus station after the police who were checking passengers’ IDs found banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong in her purse. Her younger sister, Ms. Zheng Yingzhu, 63, who was with her, was also arrested.
Both sisters’ arrests were approved by the Baiyun District Procuratorate on April 30. Their cases were transferred to the Liwan District Procuratorate on July 10.
Ms. Zheng Yingying was indicted in late July while her sister’s case was dismissed. Ms. Zheng Yingzhu has been released on October 14, after 6.5 months of detention.
Ms. Zheng Yingying is now detained at the Baiyun District Detention Center and she is scheduled to appear in Liwan District Court on November 10.
Ms. Liu Jinhuan, a 56-year-old retired concrete factory employee, was arrested on May 18, 2020, after being reported for distributing information about how the Chinese Communist Party covered up the coronavirus outbreak with similar tactics in the persecution of Falun Gong.
The Fanyu District Procuratorate approved her arrest on June 16 and forwarded her case to the Haizhu District Procuratorate in August. She was indicted in late September and had her case moved to the Haizhu District Court. She is scheduled to be tried on November 12.
Prior to Ms. Liu’s latest arrest, she served two years of forced labor and was fired from her workplace, detained in a brainwashing center for nine months, and subjected to constant harassment, monitoring, and home ransacking.
Mr. Ling Jianmin, a 44-year-old operations director at Haizhu Power Supply Bureau, was arrested on August 1, 2019, also after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The police ransacked his home around 4 a.m. and took him to the Fanyu District Detention Center. It’s reported that he is suffering from serious gout at the detention center.
The Fanyu District Procuratorate approved his arrest in late August. Two months later, the police submitted his case to the procuratorate, which then forwarded it to Haizhu District Procuratorate in early November. He was indicted in January 2020 and is now facing trial by the Haizhu District Court on November 13.
