(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman was arrested on September 29, 2020, five months after her daughter was released from serving time for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Suqin, a native of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, moved to Shunyi District in Beijing to take care of her two grandchildren when their mother (her daughter), Ms. Cheng Xiaofu, was serving a two-year term for giving out flyers bearing information about Falun Gong.
Ms. Cheng’s Ménière's disease that had been cured by her practicing Falun Gong recurred as she was traumatized by the police during her arrest on April 17, 2018. At Nihe Detention Center, the guards forced her to take unknown drugs for her dizziness, only to worsen her condition. After Ms. Cheng refused to take the medicine anymore, the guards put her in handcuffs and shackles.
When her mother and her husband, Mr. Hu Jun, visited Ms. Cheng at Hebei Women's Prison on November 11, 2019, she couldn’t recognize them and wouldn’t speak to them. She was occasionally irritated and seemed anxious.
Only days after Ms. Cheng was released on April 17, 2020, Ms. Liu was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials. Although she was released on bail that time, the police took her into custody in late September and said her case wasn’t over yet.
Ms. Liu is now detained at Shunyi Detention Center. The guards refused to accept the clothes and daily necessities her family sent her, and only allowed them to make a cash deposit for her.
