(Minghui.org) Because of upholding his faith in Falun Gong, a Wuhan City, Hubei Province resident was severely beaten in Fanjiatai Prison and lost the vision in his right eye and the hearing in his right ear. The authorities have refused to provide any medical treatment for him.
Mr. Feng Jiwu, in his 70s, also lost most of his teeth from the beating. His last two teeth were pulled out when inmate He Wei was removing the tape he put on Mr. Feng’s mouth to prevent him from talking.
Mr. Feng is now having tremendous trouble eating, yet the prison has denied his application to have soft noodles, citing his refusal to renounce Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been under suppression since July 1999. The prison authorities also called off his monthly phone call with his wife.
Mr. Feng was arrested on September 27, 2016 while attending the trial of two other Falun Gong practitioners.
He appeared in the Hanyang District Court on March 29, 2017. None of his family members were allowed to attend the hearing. The authorities tied a rope around his neck to prevent him from shouting out “Falun Dafa is good” during the hearing.
The judge sentenced Mr. Feng to 4.5 years in Fanjiatai Prison on April 17, 2017. He was first held in the 9th Ward and then transferred to the Strict Management Ward on March 6, 2018. He was forced to stand and squat for long hours.
Mr. Feng was later sent to solitary confinement several times for talking to people about Falun Gong or doing the Falun Gong exercises.
He fell asleep due to fatigue while doing forced labor around June 2019, for which the prison guards beat and pepper-sprayed him.
In addition to the physical torture, the authorities also suspended Mr. Feng's pension payment, likely due to an earlier notice that Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned for their faith are denied retirement benefits.
As the Chinese Communist Party is conducting a nationwide “Zero-out campaign” in a concerted effort to force practitioners on a government blacklist to renounce their faith, the authorities are also harassing Mr. Feng’s wife and attempting to force her to renounce her belief in Falun Gong as well.
