(Minghui.org) I worked in a detox center from 1988 to 1991, researching how to detox heroin addicts. We worked with many institutions in Beijing, and tried many ways to get people off of heroin, such as hibernation, substitution, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and so on.
Although these medical methods can alleviate certain withdrawal symptoms on the physiological side and block clinical symptoms, they cannot solve the psychological dependence on drugs. During the follow-up visits, we discovered that the relapse rate was almost 100%.
From the medical standpoint, when one is addicted to heroin, one develops physical dependence. When one is in the withdrawal state, one experiences bone pain, feels extremely cold, shakes uncontrollably, and develops a mental dependence. A person then desperately seeks drugs to avoid the mental symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, and depression.
We noticed that the medical methods can help alleviate the physical withdrawal symptoms, but do not address the psychological dependence to the drug.
I began practicing Falun Gong in 1996, and I met some people who used to be addicted to heroin, but when they began practicing Falun Gong, they recovered without having to address any physical or mental dependence.
Modern medicine cannot explain the cause of addiction, nor the relapse mechanism. But some people with supernatural powers can see the dark qi inside the addict's brain, and an entity could be seen in another dimension, which could be the cause of their addiction.
I asked Falun Gong practitioners who used to be addicted to heroin, “How did you feel when you stopped using heroin?” They had a common answer: When they read the book Zhuan Falun, they learned the true meaning of life. They wanted to practice Falun Gong, they wanted to stop using drugs, and Master Li, the founder of Falun Gong, helped cleanse their bodies.
I asked them about their withdrawal symptoms. Some did not have withdrawal symptoms at all, and some had some minor discomfort, but all of the symptoms were short lived. I asked them again if they relapsed after the detox. The answer was no. They no longer remember the effect of the drug, so no relapse would come about.
Why are people who practice Falun Gong able to completely recover from addiction? Through practicing Falun Gong and understanding the teachings, I understand that the Master of Falun Gong cleansed the practitioner's bodies, and the entity that occupied their brain was no longer there.
Yet, Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime, launched the persecution again Falun Gong in 1999, and since then, the nation's TV stations, radio stations, newspapers and magazines have been filled with propaganda against Falun Gong. But, nothing has been said about the benefits of that cultivation practice.
A drug addict once came to a drug store to buy syringes to use drugs. He saw a Falun Gong practitioner behind the counter reading Zhuan Falun. He was curious and asked, “Is this book about practicing Falun Gong better than using drugs?” The answer was yes. He asked to read the book. The practitioner asked him why he wanted to read the book, and asked if he wasn't afraid of getting into trouble due to the persecution. He answered, that since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) did not allow people to practice Falun Gong, it must be good. He picked up Zhuan Falun and began to read it. He forgot why he came to the store. He borrowed Zhuan Falun and left.
Several days later, the man came back. He was very excited and told the practitioner that he was reading the book daily and had not used drugs since! He also wanted to practice Falun Gong and begged the practitioner to teach him. He came daily to learn the Fa teachings and the exercises. His father worked in a company out of town, but he made regular phone calls to check on his son. His mother reported that their son no longer used drugs and was now practicing Falun Gong. His father was supportive: “As long as he does not use drugs, he can do anything he wants to.” Falun Gong transformed the former drug addict after he started practicing Falun Gong.
