(Minghui.org) A Jinzhou City resident was sentenced to 7 years in prison for exposing the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Ms. Ge Chunying was seized on June 16, 2017 while putting up Falun Gong flyers. The arresting officers pushed her so hard that she almost fell off a bridge as she was led to their cruiser. The police didn't show an arrest warrant.
Li Hong and Li Gang, both agents of the local domestic security office, ransacked Ms. Ge's home when no one was around. They confiscated her laptop, desktop computer, electric bike, and some cash.
Prosecutors Liu Xiuyan and Gu Yu of the Songshan Procuratorate filed an indictment against Ms. Ge. Zhang Wei of Songshan Court oversaw the trial of Ms. Ge.
Zhang held the first hearing on January 31, 2018, and only allowed two of Ms. Ge's family members to attend the trial.
The second hearing was held without notifying Ms. Ge's family. Zhang sentenced Ms. Ge to 7 years not long afterward.
According to insiders, Falun Gong cases in Jinzhou City are to be approved by Judge Ni Kai of Jinzhou Intermediate Court. Zhang's sentencing of Ms. Ge was also approved by Ni before being announced to the public.
Ms. Ge has filed an appeal with Jinzhou Intermediate Court, but the chances of Ni reversing his decision are slim. Ni once said that he hated it when people called him urging him to acquit Falun Gong practitioners. He was known to have given very heavy sentences to local Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Ge was the latest victim.
