(Minghui.org) Guangdong Province Women's Prison issued three notices on an inmate's declining health over the course of one and a half years, yet it has refused to release her on medical parole.
Ms. Yang Fengtao, 55, was arrested on October 13, 2015, for talking to the public about the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
The Puning City resident first appeared in court on March 18, 2016, and her second hearing took place less than four months later, on July 5.
During her second court appearance, Ms. Yang challenged the prosecutor and the presiding judge to name the law she had allegedly broken. Instead of receiving a response, she was dragged out of the courtroom. One bailiff slammed her to the ground and punched her in the face, injuring her right eye. A second bailiff grabbed her hair to lift her up and handcuff her. The first bailiff punched the back of her head, and she immediately passed out.
When she came to, she found herself lying under the feet of the first bailiff. She asked why he treated her so brutally. He responded, “I want to kick you too!”
Ms. Yang noted that the first bailiff’s badge number was 448769, and she later filed a lawsuit against him for the assault.
Ms. Yang was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison in December and taken to Guangdong Province Women's Prison weeks later, on December 22, 2016.
Her family received a notice from the prison in February 2017 that Ms. Yang had developed severe high blood pressure. The prison issued two more notices in the months that followed.
The third notice was given on June 15, 2018, and her family noted the words “high-risk” on the document. In contrast, the first two notices had simply read “notice on medical conditions.” Her loved ones are calling for the prison to release her on medical parole.
