(Minghui.org) The younger sister of a Shenzhen resident detained for her faith was briefly held in police custody for seeking her older sister's release.
Ms. Liao Danyin was seized at Futian Port as she returned from Hong Kong to her hometown of Shenzhen on January 8, 2018. The customs officers stopped her after finding in her bag two copies of Zhuan Falun, the main teaching of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Liao's lawyer met with her at Futian Detention Center on January 12 and learned that she had been assaulted by agents at Fuqiang Police Station. One officer stomped her on the face, while another put her in a chokehold. Her family filed a complaint with the Futian District Police Department, but the supervising agency concluded after investigating that no one had beaten Ms. Liao at the police station.
Ms. Liao's daughter wrote a letter to the authorities demanding her release but to no avail.
Ms. Liao's younger sister and another relative visited the police station on June 13. Police chief Luo Haitao refused to listen to them regarding why Ms. Liao should be released. He drove them out of his office on the second floor.
They refused to leave. Deputy chief Li Xiaofeng deceived them into going downstairs by saying they just needed to wait a bit before chief Luo had time to talk to them again. As soon as they got to the first floor, Li called in two officers to seize Ms. Liao's sister and put her in a detention room.
Ms. Liao's other relative followed Li upstairs and demanded that he release Ms. Liao's sister. Li said, “Once we have her in custody, it's not so easy to release her.”
A few hours later, the police tried to move Ms. Liao's sister to an interrogation chamber. Knowing that she was innocent, she firmly refused to go.
Ms. Liao's sister's family went to the police station later that evening to seek her release. The police noted that Ms. Liao's sister wasn't in good health and released her.
