(Minghui.org) I became a manager in 2003 before I even turned 30. That same year, I started practicing Falun Dafa again.
Throughout the past 15 years, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance have guided me to be a good person at work, protecting and cleansing me in this morally degenerate society.
The director of our department wanted to give me a bonus because he felt that I worked hard, had established good rapport with my team members, and had built a good team. Many times, he tried to pay for gas for my car or tried to share gifts that he'd received. I declined politely every time because I remembered the principle of “no loss, no gain.”
For a period of time, we were very busy. My workload was considerably heavier than usual. Afterward the director wanted to give several employees bonuses for their work. He offered to give me several thousand yuan, but I declined as usual. When he saw that my cell phone was old, he used the bonus money to buy me a very nice new cellphone, which cost around 3,000 yuan.
I was put in an awkward position. He had already paid for the cell phone, so it seemed rude to refuse again. Everyone else also thought I should take it. I didn't know what to do, so I took the cellphone. But then I read :
“As a practitioner, one cannot conduct oneself based on the standard of everyday people. It is not permitted if you go do things simply because everyday people consider them right. When everyday people say that it is good, it may not be good. When everyday people say that it is bad, it may not be bad, either,” (Zhuan Falun)
I knew I was wrong for taking the cell phone. I needed to conduct myself based on the standards of a cultivator. Using company money to buy a cell phone for personal use was wrong, but I couldn't return the phone because I had used it. So I decided to return the money to the workplace.
When I tried to return the money to my director, he wouldn't take it no matter what. He really didn't understand why I would do that. So I decided to give him some time and told him I would return the money later.
I told him about what I learned from practicing Falun Dafa. I told him that Master has taught us not to be greedy and take advantage of others. About six months later, I returned the 3,000 yuan to him. He was shocked but accepted it. I think he understood.
Ever since then, this director has praised me in front of upper managers. When we got a new manager, he praised my work first, then told the new manager how previous managers had protected me from persecution.
We had a new intern at work. He'd been an officer before he left the army. Since he lived close to me, I often gave him a lift to work. After a while, people joked that I was his driver. While we were driving, I told him about Falun Dafa, which he didn't know anything about. He told me that he and some of his friends often got into fights. They sometimes stole from or swindled people. When he worked in other departments, he took off whenever he liked and nobody dared to say anything. He came to our department for his internship because other departments didn't want him.
I felt very sorry for him and his parents because he didn't know good from bad. I also thought he had a predestined relationship with Falun Dafa. After all, Master said,
“Under all circumstances, we must be good and kind to others, not to mention to our family members. We should treat everyone in the same way. We must be good to our parents and children and be considerate of others in all respects. Such a heart is thus unselfish, and it is a heart of kindness and benevolence.” (Zhuan Falun)
I asked myself how would I treat him if he was my child. So I paid for our breakfasts in the morning on the way to work because I knew he didn't make much – he was just an intern and he grew up in a single parent home. I played recordings of traditional stories in the car and told him stories of Dafa practitioners that I read about.
One day he told me he wanted to stay in our department. After a while, he said his buddies thought he'd started practicing Falun Dafa because he often told them the stories he heard in my car. When they didn't understand him, he would say, “It can't be wrong to be a good person.” Many of them withdrew from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its organizations at his urging.
He changed. He told me one day, “I will do one good deed every day.” Another time, someone spit from a window and it landed on his head. In the past he would have made a big fuss about it, but he let it go.
He rode with me for over three years until he bought his own car.
In 2015, I filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese president Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. As a result, the police visited me at work. I was summoned to see the director of human resources, whom I'd had very little contact with before since we worked in different locations.
The director told me, “We didn't know you practiced Falun Gong. Everything would have been fine if you had agreed to stop practicing it. Since you won't do that, you have to resign and withdraw from the CCP.”
“I won't resign. Falun Gong has given me a healthy body and taught me to be a good person no matter where I am. Nobody says a good person has to lose their job. Withdrawing from the CCP is fine; I'll do it now,” I replied.
I told him more about Falun Gong and the persecution. When he asked me to sign, I refused. After that, whenever I saw him and greeted him, he never responded or even looked at me.
A while later, I was put in charge of a new project that meant I had to keep in contact with the top executives and other senior managers. For about a month, my workload was 3 or 4 times what was normal. Since it was a new project for everyone, I spent a lot of time considering all aspects of every detail. When the management couldn't decide one way or another, I did research and provided them with data. I often came home late and worked overtime after dinner.
I thought about taking it easy, but I remembered, “In terms of conducting scientific research projects or carrying out assignments from our supervisors or other duties, we are very clear-minded and perform them very well.” (Zhuan Falun) I knew I couldn't slack off at work because I was a cultivator. As a result of my efforts, the project went very well.
One time, our department had some extra cash. The management decided to distribute it among the employees and asked me to come up with a plan. I knew that this money should not be used on employees, but I also knew that giving it away was management's decision. I couldn't ask everyday people to conform to the standard of a cultivator. So I came up with a plan to distribute the money based on everyone's contribution at work.
I took my plan to my manager to get his approval. He asked, “How come you don't get any?” I told him that I was a practitioner and that I had higher standards to follow.
One day, the people from the 610 Office came to my workplace. The director of human resources called and asked me to come see him in his office. When I got there, the authorities had already left. I asked, “Have they have come to trouble you again?” He smiled and said, “Not a problem. It is my honor to serve you.”
Last year I had a new colleague with whom I had spoken about Falun Dafa. One day as we walked out of the building together, I told her more about practitioners. She suddenly said to me, “Boss, you must have really good connections.” Seeing my confused expression, she explained, “Falun Gong practitioners have been severely persecuted, but you don't seem to be affected at all at our state-owned enterprise.”
I understood what she meant.
I smiled at her and said, “I have Master.”
