(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhou Mingli's home suddenly suffered from a power outage on the afternoon of April 24, 2018. When she opened the door to check whether her neighbors still had power, a group of plainclothes officers broke in and arrested her and her guest Ms. Huang Yongmei.
Ms. Zhou, in her late 60s, and Ms. Huang, 66, were kept at the Hanzhong Police Station for one night before being transferred to Wuhan No.1 Detention Center, where they were held for ten days. Both of them were later taken to Etouwan Brainwashing Center and subjected to brainwashing and physical torture intended to try to force them to renounce their faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Although it remains to be investigated what tortures Ms. Zhou has been subjected to at the brainwashing center, it has been reported that Ms. Huang was forced to stand from 6:30 am to midnight everyday, except when she had to use the restroom. The long hours of standing left her legs severely swollen. She couldn't keep any food down and frequently vomited.
Although Ms. Huang was released on May 14, 2018 after nine days of brainwashing, staff members from her neighborhood committee harassed her four days later and threatened to hold brainwashing sessions at her home from 9:30 am to 11:30 am everyday. Ms. Huang was forced to leave home and go from place to place to avoid the persecution.
Ms. Zhou has been kept at the brainwashing center since. Her latest arrest came only five months after she was released from her 7th detention at the brainwashing center for her faith.
