(Minghui.org) Ms. Jia Xiuru, 66, is a Falun Gong practitioner from the Chuanying District of Jilin City, Jilin Province. She filed a criminal complaint in 2016 against Jiang Zemin, the former communist dictator, for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. She was subsequently arrested, then released after paying 3,000 yuan in bail. She now faces criminal charges brought by the District Procuratorate.
Three plainclothes police officers broke into Ms. Jia's home at around 1:30 p.m. on November 29, 2016. After Ms. Jia confirmed that she had filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin, they ransacked her house and confiscated Falun Gong books and brochures, along with two printers. Ms. Jia was arrested and interrogated at the local police station. She refused to answer any questions. She was taken to a detention center, which refused to admit her due to high blood pressure.
Ms. Jia's son was told to pay 5,000 yuan as a security deposit for bail, pending a trial. Ms. Jia was allowed to stay at home after her son paid 3,000 yuan in bail, which he had to borrow.
Officer Sun Baicun from the Beijijie Police Station told Ms. Jia's son on June 14, 2017, that his mother should come to the police station to get her security deposit.
Upon her arrival at the station, Sun asked her to sign a document. She thought it was about her deposit, and part of a required procedure to have her deposit returned. She signed without reading it.
Sun then took her to the Chuanying District Procuratorate to record a statement and asked her to sign another document. She signed it without reading it. She was told, “Having been given one year of forced labor, you have a criminal record, and will face a minimum of three years in prison. You can hire an attorney if you want.” She was allowed to return home.
Ms. Jia was arrested on June 18, 2008, for putting up stickers with the words “Falun Dafa is Good!” printed on them. She was first taken to the Beijijie Police Station, where she was handcuffed to a bed. She was then transferred to the Jilin City Detention Center, where she had to perform labor wrapping copper coils for energy-saving lamps.
After 39 days of detention, she was transferred to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. She failed the physical exam due to high blood pressure and was rejected by the labor camp. She went home after 300 yuan was extorted from her family.
Ms Jia was arrested by officers from the Henanjie Police Station on March 16, 2011, when she was visiting another practitioner. The police ransacked her home and confiscated Falun Gong books, brochures, and 500 yuan in cash. She was taken to the Shahezi Brainwashing Center in Jilin City.
Several people were involved in the brainwashing. She was forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. She was threatened that her retirement pay would be withheld, and that she would be given a jail sentence. She was also pressured to write a statement promising to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She was detained for 15 days.
Ten days after being released from the brainwashing center, officers from the Henanjie Police Station demanded that she take a physical examination at the station. Upon her arrival, she was arrested and taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. She failed the physical exam again however, and was released.
