(Minghui.org) I graduated from law school in 1990 and joined a police bureau in September the same year. I got in touch with Falun Gong practitioners in October 1999, three months after the Chinese Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong.
On October 1999, I was assigned to watch a group of Falun Gong practitioners who went to Beijing to appeal to the central government and were returned to their hometown by police officers. Our local police bureau detained them in a certain place, did not allow them to go home, restricted their freedom, and made them pay for their food.
This was illegal according to Chinese law. Despite this, these practitioners were very calm and peaceful. Unlike other detainees, they were not irritated at all even when treated so unfairly.
They were very clear that they were innocent and their actions were legal. They were resolute and held a firm belief in Falun Gong, which advocates the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, improves morality, and improves people’s mental and physical health.
They believed that Falun Gong was beneficial to both our nation and people, so they only expressed their hope that the government could understand the facts.
Several days of contact with them impressed me tremendously that that they were highly cultivated and kind people. I knew it was illegal to detain them this way, so whenever I was on duty, I treated them kindly and mildly. I sat there without enforcing any restrictions on them.
I allowed them to read Falun Dafa books and share cultivation experiences. From what they shared, I learned that Falun Gong practitioners do not kill lives. I felt comfortable while listening to their reading the books. I borrowed one book of Zhuan Falun from them and started reading it.
After I finished reading Zhuan Falun, I realized that it was not an ordinary book that only taught people to be good. Instead, it was a book that guided people to practice cultivation towards higher levels. The book also made me understand that a human being's life is meant for one to return to one's origin. I developed a wish to practice cultivation in Falun Dafa.
I had wondered: Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? Traditional beliefs hold that human beings are created by gods, and that people reincarnate or go to either heaven or hell after death.
Atheism wants to make people believe that heaven and hell do not exist and that there is no reward or retribution at all for one’s actions. People can do anything they want without self-restraint and pursue only a luxurious life and personal happiness.
Religious believers are able to see through life and death and free themselves from this secular world. They take earthly temptations and threats lightly.
Falun Gong, which guides people to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, brings people a new culture and lifestyle. It is our ancient culture and tradition that had been lost for years.
Falun Gong teaches people to respect heaven, earth, and nature, respect gods, cherish lives, and live in harmony with heaven, earth and nature. It is the most advanced science.
After practicing Falun Dafa, I became free of illness and felt light all over. I was happy every day. I followed the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance and tried my best to get rid of my selfishness. I treated everyone around me with sincerity and compassion. My colleagues all praised me as a great person.
Before I learned Falun Gong, I handled business for people conditionally and often received gifts and accepted dinner invitations paid for by others. If I was not well-bribed, I would not get things done smoothly.
Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa, teaches us to be the best people wherever we are. I followed Master's teachings and tried my best to become a good person, a better person, and constantly improve my realm.
After I practiced Falun Gong, I no longer accepted bribes from local residents when they asked for help, nor did I accept their invitations to dinner. I was no longer lazy at work. I worked diligently and treated people kindly.
I also took opportunities at work to tell people about Falun Dafa and the persecution.
In 2008, I finally got in touch with several other practitioners. We started a Fa-study group. We shared our cultivation experiences, told people the facts about Falun Dafa, and distributed materials together. Gradually, I developed some understanding about the meaning of cultivation practice during the Fa-rectification period.
Someone reported me to the police in 2014 while I was distributing literature about Falun Dafa. I was detained at a police station and later taken back to my workplace. One of my supervisors tried to persuade me to sign a statement that I would give up the practice of Falun Dafa. I refused to sign it at first. I thought I would never give up the practice even if I lost my job.
Then, the old forces played a trick on me. One supervisor showed me a piece of paper. “Just sign it and you can go back to work tomorrow,” he said.
One whole day of detainment and conversation made me tired. I had a human thought at that moment that I ought to stop giving my supervisors a hard time. I signed the paper. The next day, I was not “going back to work.” Instead, I was fired. I lost my job as a government official.
At the very start of my cultivation, I had a firm belief that Dafa practitioners should be perfect in every respect: great health, great financial conditions, great job, and wonderful relationships with others. In reality, it is true.
I was not worried at all even when I lost my job. I found another job soon, as I expected. It required fewer working hours with better pay. It was a blessing from Dafa. This experience gave me a better understanding of the Fa principle of “good or bad comes from one's initial thought.”
One day, I enlightened from Fa study that we should clarify the facts about Falun Gong at the places where the persecution happens.
Using my experience of having been fired for practicing Falun Gong, I went to government agencies to tell people about the persecution and mailed out letters. I was arrested and sent to a detention center at the beginning of 2016, when I told agents of my city’s 610 Office about Falun Gong.
At the detention center, I realized that I had been arrested because I didn't negate the old forces completely. As I considered how to negate the old forces, another practitioner was placed in my cell. We shared our cultivation experiences. She helped me identify my problems in cultivation. We worked together to tell the inmates about Falun Dafa. They all agreed with the goodness of Falun Dafa.
I persisted doing three things at the detention center: reciting the Fa, sending forth righteous thoughts, and telling inmates the facts about Dafa.
I negated the old forces and refused to cooperate with the guards. For instance, one guard called roll every morning. Before she called my name I told her, “I am not aiming at you. Please do not count me in, since it is illegal to persecute Falun Gong.” Some guards smiled and didn't force me to respond at the morning roll call.
At both the noon and evening breaks, two detainees were arranged to work on duty in prison uniforms. The other practitioner said we shouldn't cooperate with the evil or follow their orders. I thought she was correct and laid down my fear of being criticized. I explained to the inmates, “We are being persecuted here, so we will not wear that uniform, nor will we work on duty. At your break time, I will do the Falun Gong exercises instead.”
The cell head assigned another inmate to replace me when it was my turn to work on duty so that I could practice the exercises. The guards ignored it and no longer bothered us.
One day, we started thinking of how to tell police officers about Falun Gong and the persecution. As we discussed the issue, Master hinted for us to apply for administrative reconsideration.
We got pen and paper from the police and wrote an application letter. Administrative rules state that anyone who believes they were unfairly detained may write such a letter to appeal.
We took the opportunity to write letters to the police to explain why it is illegal to persecute Falun Gong. They admired us and said, “We really want to release you, but we don’t dare to do it.”
The other practitioner went on a hunger strike as soon as she was taken to the cell. I was aware of my attachment to the human body. I thought I should lay down my attachment, too. I told the officers, “We are being persecuted, so I am going to go on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.”
Surprisingly, we felt great and were not hungry at all, even without eating and drinking for several consecutive days. However, the officers force-fed us by ordering several inmates to hold us down and forcibly pouring liquid into our stomachs.
I had one thought, “They are committing crimes against Dafa practitioners. We cannot watch these people be harmed by the old forces.” At the point, the word “miracle” surfaced in my mind. They stopped force-feeding us.
Police demanded that I sign a statement when I was released from the detention center. I refused. The security guard demanded me to pay for the days I stayed there. A police officer told him, “She is free of charge.”
After I returned home, I studied the Fa and looked within. I identified my deeply hidden selfishness. However, I believed that Dafa practitioners would be rectified in Dafa, and that no one is allowed to persecute Dafa practitioners and sentient beings. It was my responsibility to tell people the facts about Falun Dafa.
I enlightened that we are able to pass the tests and negate the old forces as long as we keep this in mind: “Our main consciousness should dominate, and our mind must be right.”
Under Chinese law, Falun Gong is absolutely legal in China. Jiang Zemin, then head of the Chinese Communist regime, used government agencies to defame Falun Gong, detain practitioners in labor camps and brainwashing centers, make them lose their jobs, and persecute them in other ways. Jiang’s actions violate even the rules of the Chinese Communist Party itself.
However, I realized that Chinese people under the CCP have never been treated as citizens, nor have they enjoyed real human rights under constitutional law.
I decided to talk to the staff who worked in police departments, procuratorates and courts from this perspective. I quoted relevant legal clauses to support my letters to the government agencies. I asked for my job back. I also went to the city and district-level police bureaus to apply for administrative reconsideration. They did not reply.
Then, I decided to sue the police bureau and went to the court. On my first visit, the court officials refused my letter and said it did not meet their requirements. They asked me to rewrite the letter, and I agreed.
During the process, there was constant interference. The computer at the copy shop could not identify my USB drive, so I could not submit my case on the first day.
I went to the court the following day. The receptionist asked me to wait for the presiding judge. I sent forth righteous thoughts while I waited. I knew that court officials were communicating with the police department and trying to figure out how to deal with my case.
Finally, I met the judge and other court officials in their office. I told them, “The persecution of Falun Gong is illegal. It's political persecution.”
They kept trying to dissuade me. I was told, “It's enough if you can have a good job and life. The court cannot handle the case.”
“If you do not want to handle the case, give me a reason.”
“We won’t put anything in writing. We just do not accept the case.”
It's obvious that these officials knew quite well that it is illegal to persecute Dafa practitioners. They were afraid in the face of our righteous thoughts. I could feel Master's guidance and strengthening during every step of the process.
I also used my own experience to write letters to government agencies. During this period, I laid down my selfishness again and improved my xinxing constantly.
A Dafa practitioner's standard should be to completely live for others and to remove selfishness completely. I deeply sensed my own responsibility whenever I thought of Master's boundless compassion.
It is so difficult to reincarnate into a human being and even more difficult to find an upright Fa. Because of one kind thought and action I gave to Dafa practitioners, Master guided me to obtain this precious Dafa. I cherish it so much! I didn't miss the chance of ages that I came here for.
We still have a long way to go on the path of cultivation, and we carry so much responsibility. Dafa is boundless. Let's harmonize in Dafa and try our best to save as many people as possible.
