Arrested and Home Ransacked
Ms. Lin, her father, and a friend were at home on the afternoon of May 8, 2017, when a local police officer from the Zhoupu Police Station deceived Ms. Lin into opening the door, after which about eight police officers rushed in. They did not present a search warrant and immediately ransacked the home.
They claimed that Ms. Lin was “disrupting social order with high-tech radio equipment” and threatened that she would be sentenced to a three-year prison term.
They were looking for an “advanced radio transmitter,” but failed to locate such a device.
They then claimed, “You were reported by someone else in your group.” They repeatedly said, “Why don't you confess? Others have reported you! Don't think your group can be trusted!” Such a fabrication is a common occurrence in the defamation and persecution of Falun Gong.
The police confiscated two laptop computers. They arrested Ms. Lin and refused to say where they were taking her.
Family Members Summoned to Police Station
Ms. Lin's father was summoned to the Zhoupu Police Station on May 12. He was asked about the high-tech device, to which he replied that he heard about this for the first time from the police. He was told that Ms. Lin would be released on Tuesday, May 16.
Ms. Lin's husband was again summoned to the local police station on May 14, and asked about the device, and also told that his wife would be released next Tuesday. They also said that this was on the orders from a higher authority.
Not Released as Police Claimed
Ms. Lin Tingting was not released on Tuesday. Her husband hired a lawyer to defend her. The lawyer discovered that Ms. Lin was detained at the Zhangjiang Detention Center in New Pudong District and had been charged with the crime of “disrupting social order with high-tech radio equipment.”
Ms. Lin's mother went to the Zhoupu Police Station and questioned why her daughter was not released on Tuesday. The police denied saying that she would be released. They claimed Ms. Lin would be detained for one month. They refused her mother's request to talk to the persons related to her daughter's case.
