(Minghui.org) A Wuhan City resident was released in April 2017 after the local procuratorate declined to indict her for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Zhao Fenglan, an employee of Huazhong Agricultural University, was arrested on August 9, 2016. The local police station denied detaining her when her family went to inquire about her whereabouts after she failed to return home.
An insider was kind enough to confirm to Ms. Zhao’s family that she was indeed being held at the police station. Her family immediately requested her release, but an officer said she’d be detained for at least 3-5 months and asked them to not bother the police again.
Ms. Zhao’s family visited the police station many more times in the next four months, but they were told the same thing time and again. The last time they went to request Ms. Zhao’s release, they were shocked to learn that her case has been forwarded to the local procuratorate, and that she had been transferred to a local detention center.
The family was outraged that the police had kept them in the dark. They hired a lawyer, who soon visited the detention center. The lawyer learned that Ms. Zhao had been issued a formal arrest warrant a while back, but again her family was never notified. Additionally, her health declined to the point that she had to be hospitalized.
The lawyer wasn’t allowed to visit Ms. Zhao at the local hospital. He and her family then kept talking to the procuratorate and urging them to release her. The procuratorate ruled in April 2017 to not file charges against her. She was soon released.
