(Minghui.org) A resident in Pinggu County, Beijing went out for a drive on May 8, 2017 and never returned home. The local police raided his home the next day, and his family knew that he had been arrested again for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
This is not the first time that Mr. Zhang Jiuhai has been targeted for his faith. He had been given forced labor four times in the past, in 2000, 2002, 2008, and 2012. Each time, he was brutally tortured and suffered irreparable damage.
The local police never loosened their grip on Mr. Zhang. They arrested him just a few weeks after he was released on June 24, 2013 after serving the fourth forced labor term. Though he was let go days later, he was placed under house arrest for several months.
Mr. Zhang filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his repeated detentions.
The police showed up at his home on October 17, 2015 to interrogate him about his lawsuit against Jiang. Mr. Zhang refused to cooperate with them.
The police left, but they kept monitoring him afterwards. They eventually arrested him again on May 8, 2017.
Mr. Zhang's elderly parents, both Falun Gong practitioners, were not spared persecution despite their age. They each served time in a labor camp. Mr. Zhang’s father was once tied to a utility pole, beaten, and cursed. Mr. Zhang’s mother passed away on November 6, 2014, after years of living in fear.
