(Minghui.org) I am a teacher, and many of my students' parents try to give me gifts or money as a “thank you” for helping their children. I always decline, but tell them why, as a Falun Gong practitioner, we do things to help others and do not seek rewards. I also tell them about the persecution and ask them to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for a good future.
I have been practicing Falun Gong for 17 years. As long as I meet the standard of the Fa, the student's parents quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
One of my students had consistently failed exams before, but after I took over his class, his scores improved dramatically. His parents were so grateful that they tried to give me a big bag of rice, but I refused to take it.
They later insisted on giving me some other food. I felt obliged to take it, but I paid them for it. After going back and forth, they finally took it.
I told them that, as I am a Falun Gong practitioner, I cultivate according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and will not take anything from my students or their parents. My Master teaches us to be good. Since helping students is my job, I should do it well.
I also told them about the persecution of Falun Gong and asked them quit the CCP. They agreed to do it.
I took over another class in 2014. A boy named Junyi was addicted to computer games and often missed school. His parents worked in another city and couldn't look after him.
I had to call his parents frequently to talk about how to help their son. The boy's mother paid 400 yuan for my cell phone in the city where she worked and said that the phone calls were all for her son, so I shouldn't pay for it.
When the boy's mother came home to celebrate the Chinese New Year, she gave me a little red envelope with lots of money as a “thank you.”
I returned the money and the 400 yuan for my cell phone. I told her that I couldn't take any money from her, because I am a cultivator and doing a good job is my responsibility.
I also told her about Falun Gong and the persecution, and asked her to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. The boy's mother and grandfather quit the Young Pioneers, and the mother also bought a copy of Zhuan Falun.
The boy has given up playing computer games and his scores have improved.
