(Minghui.org) A former engineer of Beijing Automotive Research Institute and her father remain detained following their arrest on April 13, 2017 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
This is not the first time that Ms. Wang Yanyan and Mr. Wang Fengde have been targeted for their faith. The father-and-daughter duo was first arrested in 2005 and detained. Ms. Wang filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution that resulted in her and her father’s past ordeal.
Police from her hometown in Taikang County, Henan Province and her current residence in Shunyi County, Beijing tried to pressure her to withdraw her lawsuit against Jiang. When she refused, they began to put pressure on her employer. She was forced to resign on January 4, 2017, and the police raided her Beijing residence on April 13, and arrested her and her father.
Mr. Wang’s lawyer recently visited Renhe Police Station, but officer Xie Changjie refused to talk to him about the case. The lawyer had no choice but to call the police station’s supervising agency. Only then did another officer, Sun Ao, agree to have a meeting with the lawyer.
Two days later Ms. Wang’s lawyer, accompanied by her older sister, visited the same police station. An officer surnamed Shao interrogated the sister and threatened to arrest her. He gave up only after the lawyer protested against the illegal activity.
Ms. Wang’s sister urged the police to release her father and sister, as they had broken no law by exercising their constitutional right to freedom of belief and to seek justice against Jiang.
Ms. Wang is nearsighted, but Nihe Detention Center guards have refused to allow her to wear glasses.
