(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Zhanfeng, a Changling County teacher, is appealing her prison sentence for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Zhu was resting at home on October 31, 2016 when a group of police officers broke in and arrested her. The police didn’t even allow her to change out of her pajamas. They also confiscated her laptop, printer, cell phone, iPad, and other valuables.
The Changling County Court held a hearing on February 13, 2017, without informing Ms. Zhu's family or lawyer. When questioned by the family afterwards, a court official lied and said that the court didn’t have the family’s phone number to notify them of the trial.
Ms. Zhu was sentenced to four-and-a-half years and fined 10,000 yuan on March 28. Her appeal case now rests with the Songyuan City Intermediate Court.
While Ms. Zhu remains at Songyuan City Detention Center, her son, a high school senior, is struggling to focus on the upcoming college entrance exam, and her disabled brother, who had relied on Ms. Zhu for care, is left to fend for himself.
