(Minghui.org) A Tianjin man incarcerated for his faith is in a precarious condition due to constant force-feeding and torture sessions, yet the prison authorities have refused to stop its abuse of him or grant him medical parole. His family and lawyer are preparing to file a complaint against the prison.
Mr. Hua Lianyou was arrested on April 14, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The police sent him to Binhai Prison hours later, without going through due process. To date, he still hasn’t been indicted, much less tried or sentenced.
Mr. Hua has been on a hunger strike to protest the false imprisonment since the day of his arrest. The prison guards responded by force-feeding him on a regular basis and subjected him to various other forms of abuse and torture.
His health quickly deteriorated, but his wife’s medical parole request was twice turned down. She demanded to know what drugs and food were given to her husband and who ordered the abuse of him. The prison has never responded, and the Tianjin Prison Management Bureau simply provided her with the prison’s phone number.
Mr. Hua’s lawyer met with him in February 2017 and is working to file a complaint against the prison. His wife most recently saw him on April 10, 2017, and he warned her that should anything happen to him, the prison would be held responsible.
Below is a time line of Mr. Hua’s meetings with his family and lawyer in the past few months.
November 24, 2016
Mr. Hua’s wife and daughter visited him on November 24 and saw him wheeled into the meeting room. He told them how he had been abused at the prison hospital from August 25 to October 25, 2016. The guards once poured cold water all over his body before turning on the fan to blow air on him. They also didn’t allow him to sleep.
December 22, 2016
Mr. Hua’s wife and daughter were heartbroken when he no longer responded to them during their visit on December 22. His eyes remained closed for the duration of the meeting, and all he did was repeatedly talk about how he was force-fed and beaten.
The guards refused to release him on medical parole, despite his wife’s requests. She later hired a lawyer.
January 19, 2017
Mr. Hua was pushed out in a wheelchair with his neck and legs tied to the chair. His health had severely deteriorated. His head shook nonstop and his eyes remained tightly shut. He muttered to himself repeatedly. His wife suspected that he had been drugged. She again filed a request for medical parole, to no avail.
February 27, 2017
Mr. Hua’s lawyer met with him and took notes of how he was abused by the prison guards.
March 13, 2017
Mr. Hua told his wife that the guards continually abused him.
He said that he was force fed with such an excessive amount of food in late February 2017 that the guards had to take him to a hospital to get his stomach emptied. The procedure resulted in excruciating pain. On March 4, he was forced to sit on a bench for long periods of time. Days later, two guards tied him up and pinched his arms hard.
March 20, 2017
On March 20, his wife sent a certified mail to Tianjin Prison Management Bureau and the Binhai Prison, requesting the following information: what drugs and food were force-fed to Mr. Hua? Who ordered the abuse?
The prison hasn’t provided any response to this day. The Bureau responded by providing the prison’s phone number, nothing else.
April 10, 2017
Mr. Hua’s wife and daughter visited him and learned that he got some new wounds. Guard Liang Hanwen once hit him in the mouth with a remote control. Several inmates rubbed his genital area so hard that the flesh broke.
Mr. Hua warned his family that should anything happen to him, it would likely be a result of abuse.
