(Minghui.org) A Tianjin woman was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan on December 30, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Liu Aiping, 53, filed an appeal on January 9, 2017. The Tianjin City Intermediate Court ruled on March 28 to uphold the conviction but to reduce the sentence to 3 years. Ms. Liu has been admitted to Tianjin Women’s Prison at the time of writing.
Ms. Liu was the sole caregiver for her in-laws before her arrest on May 13, 2016. Her mother-in-law’s health quickly declined during Ms. Liu’s detention, and she passed away on January 3, 2017 without being able to see her daughter-in-law one last time.
