(Minghui.org) Following an intermediate court's decision to overturn a lower court’s verdict that found a Falun Gong practitioner guilty, the procuratorate issued a statement to withdraw the indictment against the practitioner.
The Wanghua District Procuratorate in Fushun City, Liaoning Province, issued its decision to withdraw the indictment against Ms. Cai Wei on April 10, 2017. She was originally charged with “using a cult to undermine law enforcement,” sentenced to 3 years, and fined 10,000 yuan in the Wanghua District Court.
Ms. Cai appealed the verdict with the Fushun City Intermediate Court, which overturned the sentence on March 14, 2017, and ordered the Wanghua District Court to retry her.
According to the procuratorate's statement, the Wanghua District Court sought the procuratorate’s advice on Ms. Cai’s case on March 20. “After further investigation, we have decided to withdraw the indictment on March 22. The Wanghua District Court approved the decision the same day.”
Ms. Cai Wei, 67, was arrested on September 23, 2016, and tried in the Wanghua District Court on December 23, 2016. She filed her appeal with the higher court on January 9, 2017.
