(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 11 provinces. According to this report, 8 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 24 were illegally arrested.

1. [Tianjin] Mr. Sun Jianhua and Ms. Zhao Chunyan Detained

Mr. Sun Jianhua and Ms. Zhao Chunyan from the Dagang District were arrested by officers from Shuangzha Police Station in the Jinnan District on January 14, 2017. They are being held in the Jinnan Detention Center.

Mr. Sun has developed symptoms of a serious illness as a result of being persecuted.

2. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Mr. Wang Fengchen, Mr. Ai Jiaojie, and Mr. Li Liansheng from Lindian County were transferred from Lindian County Detention Center to Daqing City No. 1 Detention Center on the morning of February 25, 2017.

3. [Beijing] Mr. Wang Zhiwen Remains Under Close Surveillance

Mr. Wang Zhiwen remains under close surveillance after he was prevented from leaving the country last year. Four people follow him every time he goes out.

4. [Suining County, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Zhang Bicang and His Wife Ms. Peng Zengyin Arrested

Mr. Zhang Bicang and his wife Ms. Peng Zengyin from Qiuji Town were arrested by officers from the Wanglin Police Station and county Domestic Security Division around February 24, 2017.

Officers ransacked their home and confiscated photos of the founder of Falun Gong, materials relating to the practice, and 3,600 yuan.

Mr. Zhang was released that evening, but Ms. Peng was taken to the Zhulou Detention Center.

The cash was later returned to them.

5. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Jia Guilan Arrested

Ms. Jia Guilan, 74, was arrested on February 25, 2017, for practicing Falun Gong. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

She has been arrested many times for her belief. She was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2008 and did not return home until September 7, 2015. Her legs became stiff after years of abuse in the prison.

6. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Zhang Shan Arrested

Mr. Zhang Shan from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was arrested on February 24, 2017.

7. [Langfang City, Hebei Province] Ms. He Qing Given a Three-Year Prison Term

Ms. He Qing was taken from her home to the Guangyang District Court and put on trial for a second time on February 15, 2017. She was sentenced to three years in prison.

Ms. He was taken to the Langfang City Detention Center for a physical exam and then transferred to the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison the same day.

8. [Beijing] Ms. Han Yumei Detained

Ms. Han Yumei from Xihenghe Village, Xitiangezhuang Town, the Miyun District, was arrested by Xitiangezhuang Police Station officers on the morning of February 24, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked.

She is being held in the Miyun District Detention Center.

9. [Rongcheng City, Shandong Province] Mr. Pan Renhua Arrested

Mr. Pan Renhua from Dashijiabo Village, Chengshan Town, was reported to the authorities on the morning of October 28, 2016, for talking to people about Falun Gong.

She was arrested and taken to the Longxudao Border Police Station. Her home was ransacked.

10. [Xintai City, Shandong Province] Mr. Cao Yuguang and His Wife Ms. Li Qin Imprisoned

Mr. Cao Yuguang and his wife Ms. Li Qin were each sentenced to 10 years in prison in early 2016.

The couple appealed to the Tai'an City Intermediate Court, but the original verdict was upheld without a hearing.

Ms. Li is being held in the No. 11 Ward of Jinan Women's Prison. Mr. Cao is in Shandong No. 1 Prison.

11. [Luchuan County, Guangxi Province] Ms. Lu Ruizhen Dies as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Lu Ruizhen was arrested by officers from the Michang Police Station on May 13, 2016, and was taken to the Luchuan Detention Center.

She was tried in the Luchuan Court on November 4, 2016, and sentenced to four years and four months in prison. She was taken to Nanning Women's Prison.

Ms. Lu was in critical condition as a result of abuse and taken to the Nanning Hospital. She died in the hospital on February 18, 2017.

12. [Yuzhong County, Gansu Province] Mr. Jin Jilin’s Father Struggles to Survive

An elderly father is struggling to make it through each day, while his son is serving seven years in prison for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong.

Mr. Jin Jilin was imprisoned two years after he finished a 10-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong. His wife and mother passed away during his first imprisonment.

Mr. Jin's father, 77, lives by himself. He was hospitalized for a week in early January 2017 after being diagnosed with tuberculosis. He is still frail after returning home. He gets dizzy and occasionally loses his balance and falls.

The local government also revoked the man's low income subsidy, leaving him in dire straits financially.

13. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Jiaze’s Sentence Upheld

Mr. Liu Jiaze was arrested on November 3, 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong.

Shenhe District Court sentenced Mr. Liu to three years in prison on December 27, 2016, after two earlier hearings.

Mr. Liu filed an appeal, which the Shenyang City Intermediate Court turned down on February 22, 2017.

He vows to keep appealing his sentence.

14. [Maoming City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Wu Zhaoqi Deprived of Visits

Mr. Wu Zhaoqi was arrested when he was putting up stickers with information about Falun Gong on January 16, 2017. He was first taken to the Tianhe Detention Center and then transferred to the Guangdong Provincial Legal System Education Center (i.e. Sanshui Brainwashing Center) a month later.

Mr. Wu’s mother and 83-year-old grandfather went to the detention center to visit him on February 18 but were not allow to see him.

His mother and attorney went to the detention center on February 20 and were still not allowed to visit him.

15. [Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Liyan’s Sentence Upheld

Ms. Wang Liyan was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in Xi’an Court in Mudanjiang on December 26, 2016. Her family appealed to the Mudanjiang Intermediate Court on January 4, 2017, and requested a public hearing.

The judge in charge has avoided meeting with Ms. Wang’s family and attorney. The intermediate court recently upheld the original sentence secretly.

16. [Beijing] Mr. Zhang Qingshan Detained

Mr. Zhang Qingshan from Nankou in the Changping District didn’t return home after going out to talk to people about Falun Gong on February 18, 2017.

Gu Tianli from the Nankou 610 Office and six other officers went to Mr. Zhang’s home at around 8 p.m. that evening. They took several Falun Gong books and amulets.

Three officers went to Mr. Zhang’s home the following evening and ordered Mr. Zhang’s wife sign the arrest warrant. She refused.

Mr. Zhang was taken to the Liucun Detention Center in the Changping District.

17. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Six Practitioners Tried

Weibin District Court tried Mr. Hou Jinlu, Mr. Li Kaihui, Ms. Yang Lijuan, Yang Ke, Ms. Gong Yanping, and Xiao Jinqyuan on the morning of February 23, 2017.

No verdict was announced at the end of the trial.

18. [Yushu City, Jilin Province] Ms. Deng Lijuan Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Ms. Deng Lijuan was arrested on August 4, 2015, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Dunhua City.

Duhua City Court sentenced her to three years in prison on January 24, 2017. Ms. Deng immediately requested an appeal.

Her family and her attorney were not notified when the verdict was announced, which is illegal.

19. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Lu Chunxia Detained for More Than Eight Months

Ms. Lu Chunxia was arrested at the home of her parents-in-law in Yongning Village, Shishi City, Fujian Province, on July 29, 2016. She was escorted back to Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, and taken to a brainwashing center in Guangzhou.

Ms. Lu has been detained for more than eight months. Her family is not allowed to visit her and have not been able to get any information about her.

20. [Beijing] Four Practitioners Detained

Mr. Xu Xuekun and his wife Bai Shuhui from Dashiwo Town were arrested on November 15, 2015, for filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin.

They were tried in the Fangshan District Court in June 2016, with no verdict being reached. The couple have been held for more than 15 months.

Mr. Li Lanqiang was arrested on April 20, 2016. He was tried on October 13, 2016. The court announced an adjournment. Mr. Li is facing another trial.

Guo Liqing from Liangxiang Town was arrested on November 30, 3016, and has been held for more than 3 months.
