(Minghui.org) I want to write about and share my experiences and enlightenments from working on the special global telephone team to target the media propaganda in China.
My first reaction when I learned we were to start a “media project initiative” was concern. I felt overwhelmed and lost.
I had only ever clarified the facts to those who worked in public security—how was I supposed to reach out to media employees, whom I had a tendency to regard as educated and somehow “better?”
Then I remembered what Master said:
“People think that the renowned persons, scholars, and different sorts of experts in human society are great. In fact, they are all really insignificant, for they are everyday people. Their knowledge is only that tiny bit understood by the modern science of human society.” (“What is Wisdom?” in Essentials for Further Advancement)
Master’s Fa changed my thinking about social classes. I promptly got rid of my attachments to pride and vainglory, to discrimination and favoritism, to snobbishness and disparagement, and replaced these notions with looking at and treating everybody equally.
I reminded myself, “The people I am calling may have higher status jobs, but they are still victims of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), because they are all poisoned by the Party’s lies and have all been unwittingly accumulating karma by following orders to prejudice people against Dafa.”
It was then I realized why the Party maintains an equally strong grip on both the pen-toting Department of Propaganda and the gun-toting Political and Legal Affairs Committee.
The day we started the media phone project, it took three tries before my first call was answered by a male voice.
As soon as I began to speak, he said, “You are Falun Gong, right? The Party is bad, right? I know it’s not good, but it pays my salary.” I could sense the impotence in his voice. Unfortunately, he stopped answering his phone after that.
I made several calls to a number of Beijing reporters. All of them hung up on me. I was getting concerned. I felt I was being ineffective. How was I to save these people if they did not answer my calls?
That evening, I listened to exchanges and feedback from other practitioners. I was inspired to learn how other team members did not give up and some had actually made at least nine calls to the same number.
I was encouraged to learn that many people actually listened to our phone calls for quite a while.
When one man answered his landline, I reminded him that Falun Gong practitioners are all good people. I asked him to spread the word to his friends, relatives, and colleagues not to get a transplant and told him why. He promised me he would not broadcast any program in the future that smeared Falun Gong.
The next landline belonged to the Journalist Association. A lady listened for nine seconds and hung up. When I called again, she listened for six minutes and 22 seconds. I told her the truth behind the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax and the facts about the harvesting of organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. I pleaded with her not to broadcast any program that slandered Falun Gong. The third time I called her, she listened for 18 minutes and 24 seconds as I reiterated to her the unimaginable horrors of the persecution.
Another phone call went to the Office of Education Research. Again, a lady answered the phone and hung up. After repeated calls, she listened for 17 minutes and 46 seconds. I couldn’t tell if she was actually listening or had just set the phone down, but I felt the whole field was quite positive and I could sense Master there supporting me with gentle compassion.
Master opened my wisdom. I made all those calls in one afternoon.
I reminded whoever might be listening to remember that Falun Dafa was good and that outside of China, over 100 countries have embraced Falun Gong cultivation practice.
I then talked about how Falun Gong does not allow killing or suicide. I analyzed every detail about the Tiananmen Square self-immolation hoax succinctly and clearly.
I reminded them about the three young media personalities, Luo Jing, Chen Meng, and Fang Jing, who had all passed away in their prime after they knowingly broadcast lies about Falun Gong, turning an incalculable number of people against Falun Gong and provoking them to hate Falun Gong practitioners.
If I knew the person who answered my call worked in the media or the Propaganda Department, I asked, “What if people listen to and believe your broadcasts? What if they then report a Falun Gong practitioner to the authorities and that practitioner is arrested and persecuted or murdered or has his organs harvested? What, then, will the outcome be for the broadcasters?
If I called the Education Department, I added, “If the students believe what the books say about Falun Gong being bad and report Falun Gong practitioners to the authorities and the practitioners are arrested and persecuted and even have their organs harvested, won’t whoever wrote those books be held responsible?
I told them that many practitioners were excellent teachers who refused all gifts from parents, but such teachers had ended up losing their jobs or being persecuted.
I asked, “Do you know what the 610 Office does? When lawyers defend Falun Gong practitioners and argue for their release based on the law—and even the judges are aware that the practitioners are innocent—the 610 Office will coerce the judges to impose sentences. When practitioners’ organs are harvested against their will, the 610 Office will be there to witness and then destroy all evidence of the crime.”
I give them examples of how good Falun Gong. “Falun Gong doctors prescribe the best and most inexpensive medicines for their patients. Falun Gong surgeons never accept money under the table. Falun Gong accountants never falsify their accounts. Those at high levels never accept bribes or gifts.”
I often remind them of the downward spiral of morality after the communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong. “Nowadays, there is counterfeit food for general consumption, waste oil being reconstituted as cooking oil, and tainted infant formula.
“Murderers and criminals can buy their way out of prison with bribes and connections. Good people who strive to be better by adhering to their Falun Gong belief are the ones being locked up.
“When Falun Gong practitioners are tortured, even the criminals can’t bear to watch.
“The world is embracing and practicing Falun Gong. Only China persecutes it.”
When I said things like that, I generally felt I was able to awaken their buried conscience.
Some of them initially threatened to call the police, but when I explained why they shouldn’t, they usually listened quietly without interruption and even jotted down the WeChat number or said they knew how to get around the communist party’s censorship firewall.
A few of them cursed and said terrible things. I would end the call but try again the following day. Some of them would then listen quietly. I would then ask fellow practitioners to help send out multimedia messages to encourage those people to not persecute Falun Gong, reminding them that good and bad will be repaid in kind.
When I made media phone calls, I paid special attention to covering live organ harvesting. I asked them if they’d ever wondered why just a few hospitals did transplants before the persecution of Falun Gong began, but the number grew to more than 800 after that.
I reminded them that we Chinese are very traditional in terms of giving up our organs and that organs cannot be mass-produced in a factory.
I told them, “A large number of Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, given comprehensive medical exams, and then basically disappeared. In all likelihood they have fallen victim to live organ harvesting.”
I then asked them to pass the word to their families, relatives, and friends to stay away from transplants and possibly becoming an unwitting participant in that crime.
Sometimes, no one answered my phone calls and my human notions would rear their heads. Then I would think, “They are all waiting for me to save them,” and I would continue trying. Most of the time, my calls were answered.
I had never made this type of special phone call for four days one end, but when I noticed how everybody on the team put forth their best effort, coordinating, supporting, and encouraging each other, I was very inspired and energized.
I realized that each special phone call reflected Master’s compassionate mercy toward all sentient beings.
I further realized that making these phone calls also reflected my attitude and my sense of responsibility toward helping Master save people.
I hope I can continue to make the best use of every minute and every opportunity to perform to the best of my ability, whether it is working on this type of special media project or making regular phone calls.
If I have written anything not within the Fa, kindly point it out to me.
