Except for Ms. Luo and Ms. Wan, the other practitioners have filed an appeal with the Handan City Intermediate Court.
Hu Haijun, the higher court judge assigned to the case, met with some family members of the practitioners on January 17, 2017. The family members explained how Feixiang Court officials tried to stop the defense lawyers from defending their loved ones, and how one lawyer was even assaulted by court bailiffs.
The family members visited the higher court again on February 4 to submit additional materials, but they were unable to see Hu this time. His clerk relayed his message that he’d inform the families later of when they may be allowed to review the case file.
