Additional Persecution News from China – January 20, 2017 (19 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 9 provinces. According to this report, 9 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 49 were illegally arrested.

1. [Penglai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Huijuan Given Three-Year Prison Term

Ms. Li Huijuan from Nanwang Town was given a three-year prison term on January 12, 2017. She has been taken to Jinan Prison.

2. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Yao Shuxia and Sister Ms. Yao Shuyan Detained

Officers from the Jingtian Police Station broke into the home of Ms. Yao Shuxia and her sister Ms. Yao Shuyan in the Huatai Residential Community, Futian District, and arrested them on January 2, 2017. They confiscated a computer and Falun Gong books, among other personal belongings. The sisters are being held in the Futian Detention Center.

3. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Mr. Gong Wenyi, Ms. Shi Xiangyun, and another practitioner named Jia were arrested by officers from the Harbin 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division on the morning of January 18, 2017. They are being held in Songbei District.

4. [Xinyang City, Henan Province] Mr. Wang Wanrong Cannot Walk Due to Torture

Mr. Wang Wanrong was taken to the Xinxiang Prison after being sentenced. He endured repeated abuse from prison guards and inmates, who were assigned by prison authorities to closely monitor practitioners. Mr. Wang was also tortured relentlessly when he went on hunger strikes. This included being brutally force-fed. As a result, he is not able to walk.

5. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Mr. Zhu Guoming and Mr. Zhu Guozhi Sentenced to Prison

Mr. Zhu Guoming and Mr. Zhu Guozhi from Chaobaoyingzi Village, Wuhua Township, Ningcheng County, were arrested by officers from the Wuhua Township Police Station on the evening of August 7, 2016 for distributing Falun Gong materials and taken to the police station. Four days later, they were transferred to the Ningcheng County Detention Center. Both practitioners were sentenced to prison and are currently being held in the Ningcheng County Detention Center.

6. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Five Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Leng Xiuxia, Ms. Wang Fengchen, Mr. Ai Jiaojie, Mr. Wang Kun, and Mr. Li Liansheng, all of whom are teachers at the Lindian County No. 1 Middle School, were arrested on the afternoon of January 18, 2017. Mr. Li was severely beaten. Ms. Leng will be sent to Daqing City.

7. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Shupei Arrested

Ms. Wang Shupei was arrested on January 14, 2017 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was later released.

8. [Gaomi City, Shandong Province] Mr. Cao Zhaokun Arrested

Seven police officers broke into Mr. Cao Zhaokun's home on the morning of January 15, 2017. They confiscated all his Falun Gong books and took him to the Dongguan Police Station, then to a detention center. The detention center refused to admit him for health reasons, and he was released.

9. [Xiangfan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Ding Xingfu's Home Ransacked

Several officers from the Gucheng Domestic Security Division broke into Mr. Ding Xingfu's home in Sanba Village, Chengguan Town, Gucheng County, on the morning of December 22, 2016. They ransacked Mr. Ding's home and confiscated Falun Gong books and informational materials.

10. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Lu Jinxiu and Ms. Wang Arrested

Ms. Lu Jinxiu and Ms. Wang from Linqu County were arrested by officers from the Liushan Police Station in January 2017 for distributing Falun Gong materials. Ms. Lu's home was ransacked. She was brought home by her family the following day. Ms. Wang was placed under administrative detention and held in the Linqu County Detention Center.

11. [Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Yuan Ling Detained

Ms. Yuan Ling was arrested on January 6, 2017. She is being held in the Xuzhou Detention Center.

12. [Chongqing] Three Practitioners' Sentences Upheld

Mr. He Zubin, Mr. Jin Yu, and Mr. Zhu Yong from Rongchang District were arrested by officers from the No. 1 Section of the Rongchang District Police Department on April 19, 2015. They were sentenced to prison on October 20, 2016 by the Rongchang District Court.

Mr. He was given a five-year prison term and fined 5,000 yuan. Mr. Jin and Mr. Zhu were each given a two-year prison term and fined 2,000 yuan. The three practitioners appealed their sentencing. The Chongqing City No. 5 Intermediate Court rejected their appeals and upheld the original sentences on December 22, 2016. The three practitioners were taken to a prison on January 6, 2017.

13. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Yufang and Ms. Zhang Xiuju Detained

Ms. Li Yufang and Ms. Zhang Xiuju were arrested by officers from the Sijianfang Police Station, Luyuan District, on the afternoon of January 19, 2017. Both practitioners were taken to the Weizigou Detention Center. It was said they were to be detained for five days.

14. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Four Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Zhao Guirong, Ms. Zhao Chunxia, Ms. Zhao Chunhua, and another practitioner with the last name Bai, from the Bairin Left Banner, were arrested by officers from the Ar Horqin Banner Police Department on the morning of January 19, 2017 for handing out calendars which contained information about Falun Gong.

15. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Dong Lijuan Detained

Ms. Dong Lijuan was arrested and her home ransacked by officers from the Changgang Police Station on the afternoon of January 17, 2017. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books and a computer. Ms. Dong is being held in the Nanzhou Detention Center.

16. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Chen Jing Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

Ms. Chen Jing, who was previously imprisoned for nearly one year, was tried on December 19, 2016. She received a verdict of five years imprisonment from the Jiaoqu Court on January 16, 2017.

17. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Seventeen Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Jia Yanling and her non-practitioner husband Mr. Wei Min were arrested at their home by officers from the Harbin City Police Department, the Daowai District Police Department, and the Daxing Police Station on the morning of January 18, 2017. The couple was taken to the Songbei District Police Department. Mr. Wei was released three hours later.

Mr. Gong Wenyi was arrested and taken to the Songbei District Police Department by officers from the Harbin City Police Department, the Daowai District Police Department, and the Taigu Police Station.

Ms. Hu Xiulan from Nangang District was arrested by officers from the Shengli Police Station, Daowai District.

Fourteen practitioners were arrested in Shangzhi City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Harbin, on January 18, 2017.

18. [Zhoukou City, Henan Province] Four Practitioners Detained

Mr. Zhou Zhengfa, Mr. Zhou Chengzhi and two other practitioners were arrested by officers from the Laozhong Town Police Station on the evening of January 8, 2017 for distributing Falun Gong materials. They are being held in the Taikang County Detention Center.

19. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Six Practitioners Taken to Prison

Ms. Xie Lihua, Ms. Ji Jianxia, Ms. Xiong Guizhen, Ms. Zhang Chaomei, Ms. Pan Hanyu and Ms. Pan Xiaoqin were sentenced by the Xuanwu District Court on December 7, 2016. They all hired lawyers and appealed to the Nanjing Intermediate Court.

The intermediate court did not notify the lawyers when it decided to uphold the original sentences. Ms. Xie, Ms. Ji, Ms. Xiong, Ms. Zhang and Ms. Pan Hanyu were taken to Nanjing Women’s Prison on January 12 and 13, 2017. Ms. Pan Xiaoqin, 71, was transferred to the same prison on January 17.
