(Minghui.org) While reading an article on Minghui Weekly recently, I thought more about the attachment of jealousy.
In the past I had some confusion about this. I understood a little, but not much. I did know that the attachment of jealousy manifests in many ways.
In Zhuan Falun, Master said,
“The issue of jealousy is very serious as it directly involves the matter of whether you can complete cultivation practice. If jealousy is not abolished, everything that you have cultivated will become fragile.”
In Essentials for Further Advancement, Master said,
“A wicked person is born of jealousy. Out of selfishness and anger he complains about unfairness towards himself. ”
I began to think about this more: What exactly is jealousy? I knew that looking down upon others is related to jealousy, so is the discomfort felt when others are seen to be better-off. But why is it the root of wicked people? Why could it jeopardize our entire cultivation? Plus, if jealousy is so common, why did I not find it when looking within?
I thought about this for a long time. It came to my mind that jealousy is related to the competitive mentality and indicates that one is unwilling to consider others. In fact, if we were considerate of others, we would not feel uncomfortable when others are better-off, and we would not gloat over our own success either. Thinking more about this, shouldn't a person be considered wicked if he behaves this way? Wouldn't it undermine our cultivation, which should be based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance?
Looking back over the past few months, I worried that I did not have much compassion, as if I just wanted to finish tasks assigned by Master. Now I have realized it was related to my attachment of jealousy and my competitive mentality. As a result, I was not fully considerate of others. When someone did not want to listen to facts about Falun Dafa, I even thought, “Forget it! It's not my fault anyway.” In fact, those thoughts are not from my true self.
Jealousy is indeed serious and I will pay attention to it from now on.
