(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman was recently sentenced to three years in prison for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted in China since 1999. She was tried on August 30, 2017, by Shuncheng District Court.

Ms. Liu Yun, who is from Fushun City, was arrested on June 2, 2017, while she was telling people about the persecution. After numerous fruitless inquiries at the police station, Ms. Liu’s mother, who is close to 90 years old, hired a lawyer for her, worrying that she would be tortured in detention.

A police officer then threatened Ms. Liu’s daughter, saying that they had already sent her mother’s case to the prosecution and that hiring a lawyer would not help. The officer also threatened to arrest her.
