(Minghui.org) A senior engineer from the Nanjing No. 14 Research Institute, Ms. Xie Yannin, was arrested by officers from the Nanjing 610 Office and the local police on September 20 because of her belief in Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa. Her whereabouts are currently unknown.
It is believed that this is part of the nationwide harassment and arrest campaign before the 19th Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) National Congress. The CCP has been attempting to stop Falun Gong practitioners from using the Congress as an opportunity to let the public know the facts about the persecution.
Repeatedly Persecuted
Ms. Xie, 54, has been persecuted multiple times for practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested eight times between 2000 to 2002 and was subsequently detained in brainwashing centers and detention centers.
She was arrested at a hotel during a business trip to Beijing in August 2009, when an ID check tagged her as a Falun Gong practitioner. She was sent to a labor camp, where she was held for two years. From 2009 to 2011, Ms. Xie was detained at the Beijing Women's Labor Camp and Inner Mongolia Hohhot Labor Camp. She was tortured in Beijing Women's Labor Camp by being forced to sit on a small bench from 5:00 a.m. until midnight.
Ms. Xie and her husband were sent to brainwashing centers in March and April 2010. Their third-grade daughter was forced to stay with them while they were detained.
Ms. Xie was arrested again for suing Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, in 2015. She was held at the Nanjing Detention Center, until she was released on bail.
Persecuted Despite Outstanding Contributions
Ms. Xie and her husband are both senior engineers at the Nanjing No. 14 Research Institute. They have been assigned to key national projects. Before practicing Falun Gong, they worked a lot of overtime and suffered from stomach problems, skin disease, tinnitus, asthma, rhinitis, and lumbar disc herniation. Their health improved after practicing Falun Gong, and they continued to work hard, devoting themselves to national projects.
With the start of the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, the institute carried out Jiang Zemin's persecution policy under the direction of the 610 Office and local police. Despite the couple's outstanding contributions, the institute suspended their salaries, fined them, and cooperated with the police to have them arrested.
