(Minghui.org) A retired elderly woman in Tianjin City was sentenced to a three-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline currently being persecuted in China. Her appeal was denied and she was taken to Tianjin Prison in June 2017. Her family believes that she was tortured, and injected with nerve-damaging drugs, since she appeared incoherent and non-responsive during family visits.
Ms. Liu Shuzhen, 69, started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. She became perfectly healthy from the practice, and followed the teachings of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in her everyday life.
The police in Tanggu District broke into Ms. Liu’s home in June 2016 and arrested her. They put her in Wuqing Detention Center for 22 days and released her on bail after extorting 5,000 yuan from her.
Four officers arrested Ms. Liu in the morning on May 5, 2017, and locked her in the detention center. She was subsequently indicted, tried, secretly sentenced to a three-year prison term, and fined 10,000 yuan. She was transferred to Zhaojiadi Detention Center in Tanggu.
After her appeal was denied, she was transferred to the second ward of Tianjin Prison, where she was forced to perform 12 hours of labor-intensive work every day, along with 15 other Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Liu was also constantly threatened and brainwashed.
